being nice today. This is coastside in chester, and it is 21 right there right now, mostly sunny skies. Terrific. Whether you're in the garden or doing a coastal walk this weekend, you can see temperatures in the low 20s in most cases, edging into the mid 20s in some spots. You can see the winds have been from the west to southwest. Caribou point, a bit of an offshore wind there howling at that coastal spot. You can see greenwood gusting to 52. It's helping to pump in those nice mild temperatures. This is the cold front we're going to be watching. That is going to be moving through pretty unceremoniously through the overnight. It's not going to be bringing us much in the way of precipitation. This is going to be edging into our area on sunday, and just a couple of spits with that. This is going to be giving our best chance with showers in the seven-day forecast. Heat in the south. Just 7° in winnipeg, so some cooler air hanging out over the canadian prairies. Double digit overnight lows. Risk of a shower or isolated pop-up shower. Looking at the radar, not seeing too much there now, but another risk for an hour or two. It's mainly P.E.I. and new brunswick, maybe an isolated shower overnight into cape breton. A mix of sun and cloud here in the northeast. Clouds certainly dominating at times, and a very isolated chance of a shower popping up here. The best chances will be in inverness county. We will squeak into the 16°, 17° range. Closer to mid teens along the coast, and there again are those isolated chances for showers. Don't let those keep you inside. It is still going to be a fine day. Warmer towards the south and west. A good chance of 23°, 24° down towards the bridgewater area. The winds from the east to northeast and a little bit of an east to southeast flow, to eastern areas will be a bit cooler on sunday as you can see. Still squeaking into the high teens, low 20s for many areas on sunday and just an isolated possibility of a shower with this little wave coming through here, but overall, pretty quiet. High pressure is going to be moving in settling in for sunday night into monday, and this is the system which will increase our clouds sunday night into monday. High teens in the valley but cooler along the atlantic coast. Showers for tuesday and fingers crossed that those showers are substantial. Amy, just a reminder for folks to be super safe this weekend. Burn ban for much of the province, just make sure you're keeping an eye on that through the weekend,. >> Amy: this is the third time that sydney pickram, whose parents are from halifax, has qualified for the olympic games. Congratulations. The olympic trials were just three days ago. What was it like qualifying for the olympic games? >> Thank you. Yeah, I think the first time that I qualified, I was 18 and a baby and didn't know what I was doing. Going through an olympics in the pandemic and to now, I think I've grownup a lot and changed as I made the olympic team. There's a lot of stress in just a different way. I think you just cherish the moment so much more, so I wanted to make sure I made the squad and the team. >> Amy: you've got a good cheering section here in halifax. Tell us about that? >> My aunts came over to toronto and my parents, as well. They're the best. I love whenever I get a chance to get to go back to halifax or P.E.I. and be with my family. They're genuinely so supportive, and I'm so excited they're going to make the trip

out to paris. >> Amy: this was your fourth trip to the olympics. You were a 2020 medallist. What's your hopes this time around? >> As I said, as you get older, you appreciate each time around, so I think having the pandemic olympics to now, I'm just really excited to take in the except of the olympics and being with the best athletes in the world and what they do, so I really want to enjoy it but I want to be at the top of my game. I think going best time to now at this age, I'm progressing forward in this sport, so I'm just taking them as they come. I want to get some bests, my personal bests. Wherever the cards lie, hopefully it's medals, you can't control it but I'll just enjoy it. >> Amy: will you go for a fourth olympics if you can? >> I have no idea. If I said I would have looked past this olympics, I would have said you're crazy, but looking at this and where it can progress, four years is a long ways down the roads and a lot can happen in that time, but we'll see where we go. >> Amy: all right. We'll all be watching and cheering you on. All the best. >> Thank you. >> Amy: coming up, we've got our news maker. Welcome to Canmore, Alberta. This will be your toughest day yet. -Get back up! Boom! -Don't eavesdrop. -i can't shut my ears off. Well then shut your mouth off. Announcer: Canada's Ultimate Challenge. Watch free onCBC Gem. >> Amy: northern pulp has agreed to abandon its idea of restarting its mill in picto county with another thought of opening a mill in liverpool. That was part of an agreement reached with the province of nova scotia. Ray wilde is here for more. This caught you off guard. >> Yes. >> Amy: once you heard the details, what did you think? >> Well, it looks like the government is going to write off $100 million from the previous mill. That's taxpayer money that they owed, and it looks like $100 million in subsidies, so that's a big thing, and potentially as they investigate the feasibility, they will be looking for more government dollars, so this is a heavily subsidized industry. Obviously, it's not good news for our forests. We already have very badly degraded forests. Very old growth, a lot of young growth, and that's from decades from industrial harvesting, high value, low commodity product production, and so we're not obviously -- it's kind of like going back to the future or forward to the past. We're just going to do what we're done before in another place with potentially a new mill, and the volume that the old mill consumed was way more than our forest could take, and over decades, it's been degraded heavily. The consumption in picto was 1.2 million [indiscernible] and increase fire risk because they rely on highly flammable spruce and fir. >> Amy: now, obviously, the mill in picto county was decades and decades old. This will be a new modern mill. Do you think things will be more efficient because it's more modern? >> Well, it can't be worse. But the kind mill, we were very shocked to see they're pledging to build the exact same kind of chemical bleach mill which will produce massive amounts of liquid pollution and air pollution in order to function, compared to a mechanical mill that mechanically pumps its wood using electricity and produces almost no pollution. The chemical cooking of fibre chips results in massive amounts of liquid pollution, which will have to go into the ocean at liverpool or near liverpool, and if I was people on the south shore, especially near liverpool, I'd be concerned they're making another deal with the devil for an industry that's very chemically dependent. There hasn't been a chemical pulp mill built in canada for over 40 years, and for good reason, and this is the reason. >> Amy: nobody yesterday was saying it was a bad thing, that the jobs are badly needed and it can't come soon enough. What do you say to the people who need it for their lively livelihood? >> We understand the need for it and a place for low value wood. Unfortunately that's such a concern for the industry is that's what our forests have become after decades and decades of heavy harvesting and clear-cut primarily, and also for the residents there, be careful what you wish for. I think if you ask most of the residents of picto county about that and the trade-off for jobs, you'll find they're not at all happy with what they suffered from the mills. >> Amy: if you had one message for the houston government, what would it be? >> Don't build a large mill. It should be half the size. If it's a pulp mill, the bleaching should be absolutely
