Now, in the east, our parent low across northwestern areas of ontario, that's where the heavy rain is. The cold front stemming down from there, that will be providing lift for the thunderstorms to occur in ontario and québec. See the broken cloud deck here sitting in eastern canada? North of there, that's the cool air. South of there, that's the warm, humid air feeling that from moncton, windsor, ontario, toronto. Look at labrador sitting at 9° with rain showers. Heavy rain has been falling in northwestern ontario, with the heaviest rain lifting north and west of the shoreline of lake superior itself. Here is the risk of thunderstorms. That soupy air mass, we could be looking at hail, downpours, high winds and potentially even a tornado or two, especially in the cottage country in ontario towards western regions of québec. So, again, just a reminder, not saying there will be a tornado, but you want to make sure you're in the basement if you're in a home. If you do not have a basement, get to an interior room away from windows. Those are the safest places to be. Risk of thunderstorms extends into eastern québec as well. New brunswick, isolated thunderstorms in nova scotia today. On the north side of that disturbance, periods of snow through friday in labrador. Cooler across the western canada as opposed to ontario and québec. Daytime highs just around 10° in calgary. Rain easing off in had coastal areas of B.C. rain showers, 10-20 mm the next couple of days. Eastern B.C. and western alberta, accompanied by thunderstorms.

Our top story this hour -- as we look live at ottawa this hour, we'll be taking you live to this round of question period. >> Andrew: and a general election will be held on july 4, ending a long awaited speculation of when. >> Jacqueline: but first, hamas has released a video of three israeli hostages. A warning, you may find the video disturbing. [speaking alternate language] >> Jacqueline: the families of the young women hope the video puts pressure on israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu to end the war. Let's go to journalist irris mackler. >> Reporter: we see videos of women, some of them with their hands tied behind their backs. Many of them are wearing their pajamas. We know that their homes were overrun by hamas attackers that morning. They're then moved from there to vehicles that will take them into the gaza strip, where they'll be taken hostage. We know this that room there were bots -- bodies of their friends. One of the girls who's hopping has been injured. You hear yelling, shooting, and people appear to be injured. You can see that the young women are terrified. As a woman myself, the most distressing thing to me was the attackers. One of them says to one of the girls, you're beautiful, and another one said we can get them pregnant. This is terrifying, but this is one of the times where we don't see too much. >> Andrew: why was this video released? >> Reporter: well, those five girls have been there for 229 days, and the families of the hostages do not feel that enough is being done. The hostage families released a statement, saying, it's an indictment on the failure first of all on the 7th of october and then before the 7th of october. There hasn't been negotiations on that. It's known that the war cabinet hasn't met for hostage negotiations since. We know it was difficult for the parents to make the decision to release this video. Other families of hostages whose members have been released say they feared getting pregnant, and that's why they've released these videos, that not enough is being done. >> Jacqueline: that was journalist irris mackler in jerusalem. For more, we reached a research fellow at a university in israel. Thank you for joining us. >> Sure. Thank you so much for having

me. >> Jacqueline: we watched a portion of this video, and you watched the full three minutes of it. I wonder what went through your mind when you saw it? >> A very disturbing video. We can just imagine what those young 19-year-old females are feeling, their feelings back then on october 7. We can feel the virtual violence against them and violence since october 7 and now for eight months. I think we cannot imagine for ourselves what they are going through right now. >> Jacqueline: yeah, the report we were just listening to this were talking about the comments heard in particular in the video how the men were saying "you're beautiful," and "these are the women we can get pregnant." that sounds, as she described, distressing just watching it. I wonder what you made of it? >> It is, and in general, sexual violence against females, the hostages, that video was released today, and in general against other israeli hostages. This is something that we definitely should put more pressure on hamas and on other countries to make sure that they with bring them home now. Today, those are israeli females, but I'm concerned that israeli women and other palestinian women are subject to the same type of violence. But as females, we have a responsibility to take action, bu also to qatar, to put more pressure on hamas and also the israeli government to go back to the negotiation table and to make sure that everyone is going to be back home now. >> Jacqueline: I want to talk more about that, erga, but I also wonder, this video was released by the families of the hostages. Why would the -- why would hamas have released it to the I.D.F. in the first place? >> So when hamas fighters used their body cameras on october 7 in order to demoralize the hostages and their families. They use those cameras, and I assume that back then it was -- we can see a lot of fake knews and fake narratives -- fake news and fake narratives that the hostages are safe. >> Jacqueline: so the families released video of the hostages in order to get the government to come to the table and in order to reach a deal. How successful do you think it could be? >> I hope it's successful, and like I said, the reason to release this video is to put more pressure on the israeli government to go back to the negotiation table and continue negotiations, but the main thing we should remember is that hamas is not really interested in a deal in releasing them, so there is a need for countries to put more pressure on qatar, on the u.s., and on hamas to make a deal in order for everyone to be back home immediately. >> Jacqueline: erga, just a quick. When hamas decided to release this video, why edit out the reality that these women were subjected to, even if it was even more awful than what we

see in the video itself? >> So one could be consideration. Maybe that's the decision they decided not to release the full video, and another could be decision of the families. The video was a very difficult family for me and everyone else who watched it only those three minutes, and I assume it would be even more difficult to watch the whole video and even more difficult just to imagine to ourselves what those young females, only 19 years old, are going through right now, captured by those monsters of hamas terrorists. >> Jacqueline: erga, thank you so much for joining us today. Thank you so much for your thought and see your time. >> Thank you so much. >> Jacqueline: that was erga atad in tel aviv. >> Andrew: we're going to take you to ottawa where N.D.P. leader jagmeet singh is speaking. >> -- to rip off canadians with their cell phone choices, and we know what happens when you limit choices. Less choices mean fewer prices for canadians. The prime minister needs to realize that he has the power to stop corporate greed. So we're calling on a written letter directly to the commissioner to investigate what's going on. Clearly this looks like another example of anticompetitive behaviour that's ripping off canadians, more proof that corporate greed is ripping off canadians, and we've got to make sure that corporate greed stops ripping off canadians. I'm going to do that one more time in french and then answer questions. [Speaking French]. >> [Voice of Interpreter]: canadians are paying among the highest cell phone service prices in the world, and now we hear that the government is working with rogers and bell to limit choice. The prime minister promised to bring down the cost of groceries. That didn't happen. He promised to bring down the cost of cellular service. They're still very high. I have written to the head of the competition bureau asking they investigate this because I think this is an example of exploitation and greed on the part of corporations, and we need to stop this. Neither justin trudeau and pierre poilievre are willing to stop this but we are in the N.D.P. N.D.P. >> Reporter (Speaking French): trudeau will be opening a new office in teljerusalem. Do you think this is the right time to be doing this? >> [Voice of Interpreter]: well, given everything that's going on, I don't think that is the right time to do this. >> Reporter (Speaking French): what about palestinian rights? You say that canada is not doing the same thing of other countries, but I believe at one point there was a removal of a reference to statehood in a bill? >> [Voice of Interpreter]: there was a bill tabled by heather MacPHERSON to-- and I think it's important to realize palestinian statehood so that we can move forward. >> Reporter (Speaking French): why did you agree to see your bill amended? It was amended, that reference? >> [Voice of Interpreter]: well, we have a bill continuing to move forward brought in by heather MacPHERSON, and we continue to support that position, but that position has not changed.

>> Reporter (Speaking French): >> I think you're talking about a motion, not a bill, but it'll be a long time before the motion comes before other parliamentarians as the other motions have been prioritized. >> [Voice of Interpreter]: no, that is still our position. Palestinian statehood should be recognised, but it's also clear that the liberals have not taken a position on this, and that's wrong. Other countries have done this, including ireland and spain, and we believe that canada should also recognise palestinian state hood so we can move forward a two-state solution. [end of translation]. >> Absolutely. So we need to recognise palestine as a state so we can move peacefully forward to a two-state solution. We have a motion on this, but more importantly, justin trudeau should take this position, canada should take this position. It's been presented as one of the ways forward, and we believe it's a fundamental step towards peace. >> Reporter: some comments yesterday, the finance minister spoke about pierre poilievre wore more makeup than her. What do you think about that comment being made in the house? >> I don't think we should attack him when we can attack his actions. He wants to cut canadian pension plans. He want to do away with dental care. He wants to cut the things that people need. He's never going to take on corporate greed because he's so cozy and close to the C.E.O.s of these corporations for him. His main body is made up of corporate lobbyists. That's the main thing. He's going to cut pensions for seniors. People should know that, and I think that's where we should focus our attacks and not make it personal. >> Reporter: one more. Some people said it was homophobic, some people said it was wrong. What do you think? >> I think it's wrong to attack pierre poilievre personally when we can attack him on his actions. He's going to hurt canadians by taking away their pensions. He's going to hurt canadians by taking away E.I. he's not going to stop corporations or corporate grocery stores from ripping off canadians, so that's what we should focus on, how pierre poilievre is going to hurt canadians because he's so cozy with large corporations he's going to rip you off. [Speaking French]ING in [Speaking French] >> [Voice of Interpreter]: this report shows that the liberals have broken their promise when it comes to homelessness. Rather than reducing the problem, they have made it worse, so this is another broken promise by the liberals. Justin trudeau has to take action to build affordable and social housing so that we can address that huge problem right across the country. [end of translation]. >> Reporter: parliamentary budget officer saying it will cost another $3.5 billion annually to meet the housing targeted that the liberals set for 2027-2028. What do you think the government should be doing here to try to actually achieve that goal? >> What justin trudeau has done again and again is break promises. He makes big promises and then never follows through. Invest in and then build homes to address the housing crisis, the homelessness crisis. This government makes a lot of promises but doesn't take a lot of action. We need to take action to take into account the seriousness of what we're going through right now. >> Reporter: would you explain the specific actions that the government needs to take to stop this from happening?
