At that point has now arrived. >> Heather: the governments of ireland, spain and norway have announced they are recognizing the state of palestine. The country's leaders made simultaneous announcements earlier today. Official recognition will begin may 28th. Israel has condemned the move and recalled its ambassadors for all three countries. The push for recognition of a palestinian state has grown since the start of the war in gaza in october. Canada remains among the countries, including the u.s., the U.K. and france, that do not recognize palestine as a state. I'm heather hiscox. Also making news on this wednesday morning, police in montreal are investigating a fight in an alleyway that has left two men and a teenager dead. This happened early last evening. The victims 15, 23 and 25 years of age. They all died of stab wounds. Police are speaking to witnesses and looking at surveillance video. They have not jet established a motive or made any arrests. >> Multiple people were killed and dozens injured after a tornado ripped through a small town in iowa. The tornado flattened homes and other buildings in the community of betweenfield yesterday. Authorities are still trying to determine the number of dead. The twister was part of a destructive storm system that moved across central mid western U.S. states. [ ] [ ] >> Heather: next, more special coverage out of haiti. The international mission to take back control of the country from criminal gangs, that is expected to take a major step forward this week. About 200 canadaian police are expected to arrive in haiti within days. Later today, kenya's president will be in washington for a state visit, and haiti is expected to be a key focus for his talks with U.S. president joe biden. Biden's top kitimat, secretary of state antony blinken, warns haiti is on the verge of becoming a failed state. Paul hunter is back in haiti, leading a cbc news team there and he tells us this morning many haitians are trying to escape the gang violence, but they hit a wall literally when they attempt to cross into neighbouring dominican republic. >> Like in so much of the rest of the country, at the heron border town here, chaos reins. >> We're right at haiti's border with the dominican republic. The line is right there. Dominicans can come this way, but with rare exception, haitians cannot set foot on the other side. Haitians want to get out,

dominicans won't let them, as haiti's capital spirals in gang violence, the dominican republic wants no part of it. They are even building a border wall. It's partly finished. It will grow much longer. Gang members in port-au-prince make it worse for everyone in haiti, this haitian man tells us, then we come here and get pushed back by dominicans. But now, signals change may be coming to haiti. Haitian authorities releasing this video showing some of what's lately been delivered to this country ahead of the now imminent arrival of a multinational police force led by kenya, all aimed at helping restore order, an advance team from kenya is now also in this country. And the U.S. now underlines haitian police have lately made headway battling the gang. >> In the last few weeks, they've actually done a better job of that. They've taken back of the airport and other commercial infrastructure, in fact commercial flights resumed in haiti. >> Indeed, at the port-au-prince airport, a breakthrough. For the first time in three months, commercial air travel. I'm able to leave by the grace of god, said this woman before boarding. I'm happy. Still, not all haitians welcome the coming foreign forces. Back here, the graffiti reads, we don't want kenya in haiti. And again as this woman who flight hit extreme turbulence port-au-prince for the family safety of her family underlined for us, I welcome the kenyans, haitians are destroying themselves. >> Heather: that is paul hunter from haiti, and he will have more special reporting from inside haiti on the national tonight. And here on cbc news network. >>> India's capital is suffering through a relentless heatwave. The mercury in delhi has spiked now to 47° celsius. It's prompted the india meteorological society to issue a red alert and warn this summer could see longer and more frequent heatwaves. The heat comes as india's holding its general election and voters are concerned about queuing for long hours in the heat, so 2 could have an impact there. This heatwave is expected to spread to central and western india in the coming days. We'll be watching that. This is cbc morning live. [ ] [ ] ( ) Ever wonder what's around the next corner? Michael j. Fox:When we see Team Canada on the world stage, we're witnessing pure greatness. What we don't see is their struggle. We don't see Maude Charron being forced to change

weight classes after she wonOlympicgold. Hugo Houle persevering through the tragic loss of his brother. Or Andre de Grasse dealing with all the doubters. Including himself. What we don't see makes us who we are. We're all bravely facing the odds in our lives. Now bravery is our victory. - -[crowd cheers] understood that he could not withstand the cross-examination that would be forthcoming. He has a strange relationship with truth in relationship to this case, in my mind. And I think that would become very apparent were he to take the stand. Good for donald trump and good for todd blanche that they were able to conclude that testimony was not in his best legal interests. >> Heather: so look to the next stages, then, for me. Number one, as I was just mentioning, the judge has promised that he will give both sides his instructions, his charge to them by the end of day tomorrow. He's been hearing arguments from both sides to establish the framework or the parameters of his charge to the jury, the instructions and law and in terms of the crime, the charges in law, before he sends the jurors into deliberations. Help us understand just how important the judge's charge is going to be in this case. >> It could be outcome determinative of the verdict here because it's not a simple case. It's not like did he rob the convenience store or not? Did he murder with intent to kill or not? This is: did he engage in business fraud for the purpose of outcome effecting of his election campaign or outcome affecting his tax benefit or outcome affecting his state election claim. So the judge has got to say to the jury, look, you have to think about this case in a very specific way. Did he engage in the business fraud? What was the reason he gave for that? Did it level it up to a felony or not? And that's complicated stuff. But I think that he may get a jury form, a verdict form into the jury room to help him think through the three steps of the analysis that they will be required to make in order to reach a verdict in this case. >> So is it -- come back to that point, because you said to reach the threshold of felony from misdemeanor, 34 felony charges in this case. And you use the word intent. Much of the argument from both sides has been over this word intent. How does it come into play as far as donald trump is concerned here? >> In order for this to be a felony, and they did not charge him with misdemeanors, they didn't include -- misdemeanours is a less included offence. Either he was a felon or he wasn't a felon, and that's that. And so the question is to be convicted of a felony, you have to have engaged in the business crime falsely entering the records on the book with the intention of doing something else. And that else here is most probably going to be argued in closing as to impact the election results. So that's election fraud. So they have to -- you know, they can conclude that, yeah, he doctored his books, but he did it to protect his family. He didn't do it to impact the election, he didn't do it to violate law, he did it like bill clinton argue today protected family. And so that's going to be a big part of the closing argument, and how the jury is instructed on how they evaluate what intent is will be critical to their

deliberation process. >> Heather: thank you, that's clear. So how broad he is, in his instructions, or how specific will be very interesting, and again we should have from the judge or the lawyers will have anyway a final version of his charge by the end of day tomorrow. Next week when this begins, we'll talk about closing arguments and what you are expecting to hear from both sides. But I'm wondering about the jury at this point after listening to 20 days of a trial, michael, now they have this week off. What impact can that have on a jury, you know, sort of just sitting in limbo now before they hear sort of the final argument of the final narratives here from both sides? >> Well, hopefully they're just reflecting on what they heard. Remember, the jurors are not allowed to talk to one another about the case until they go back into the jury room after jury instructions. So presumably, they are going to take the memorial day weekend, which starts this weekend, and just decompress a little bit and think about what they heard. They are not supposed to be talking about the case between themselves, between -- among themselves, between them and their family, they're not supposed to read the newspapers, they're supposed to just essentially might be anyway. And if they do that, then I don't think this long delay will impact their verdict. I think once they get back in and they hear closing arguments and they get the instructions from the judge, they be be, you know, back in full swing. >> All of that set to begin for tuesday, closing arguments, the judge's charge, his instructions to the jury and then deliberations expected to begin next week. We'll be speaking then. Thanks so much, michael, I appreciate the time today. >> Thanks for having me. Interpol, canada's now working with interpol, remember that

announcement we had back for you live in february 21st of this year, when canada paired the database from the rcmp with interpol's database. Since that time, this is just what we're hearing now, more than 1500 vehicles stolen in canada have been detected around the world. Rcmp's database has details on about 150,000 vehicles, and since it's integrated now with interpol, this is what they're just releasing, more than 200 of the stolen vehicles had been identified each week. And this is what's happening as they are checking information, law enforcement officers around the world. They say usually at national ports revenue entry. So this was part of the federal government's announcement, put three and a half million dollars into this joint work with interpol, certainly this week, we got further details on the holiday monday from the federal government about some of the additional measures to reduce auto theft in this country, which is absolutely epidemic. So this is just breaking. Again, pretty stunning numbers, more than 1500 vehicles stolen in canada, detected around the world. It doesn't say recovered, but at least detected at this point. More on that to come as we get reaction from ottawa. We would imagine today on that story. Let's get some other breaking news, market wise, scott, nasdaq hit a record high just recently. Now it's a little flat, but it hit a new record high just moments ago. >> And that's something to talk about. We also saw s&p 500 close at record high yesterday. The tsx flirting with record highs and this is a lot of enthusiasm in the markets despite a lot of people still worried bin flags and when interest rates are coming down. Let's take a look at the markets, we are seeing a little bit of red out there but starting with the price of oil, that too is coming down about $1 a barrel, p $7, just below 78 can also. The canadian dollar, euro and british pound slightly negative against the U.S. counterpart and let's take a look at the markets. They saw the peaks from the top much a mountain and now pulling back just a little bit, the tsx sliding about 60 to the downside. We have lululemon off today, shopify is up 4% on beating earnings, target also up in trading and the big board with the s&p, dow and nasdaq, they are sort of in mixed territory, they had opened up negative across the board but pretty much a little bit of a hesitation after hitting those record highs. >> Thank you, scott. >> Thanks, heather. Music critics praised the album for its experimental production. Purple rain was inducted into the grammy hall of fame back in 2011. It's also been added to the library of congress in the national recording registry there and now it has made it into the top 10 of amle music's list of the top 100 albums of all time. Number 4 on the list, just earlier this hour, we were telling you lauren hill's number one, the beatles, beyoncé, kendrick lamar, stevenvy wonder and michael jackson also included in that final top 10. We've heard your choices, thank you very much for letting us knows know. Do you think dark side of the moon should have been much higher than 28, appreciate your thoughts. 1984, chris, I don't know, is that a favour for you? I remember it well, remember seeing, it remember playing it a lot. Have you decided -- we are getting early and we thought we would have a whole day for you to reflight hit extreme turbulence on what your number one is, I'm sorry, accelerating. What's yours? >> It's going to take me day to just get over the shock. >> Of lauren hill as number one? >> That was surprising, I mean, stairway to heaven, led zeppelin, arguably one of the biggest songs ever written and that album didn't even make the top 100. >> I can't believe it.

>> I know, I know, heather. >> Maybe we should just move on. >> Well, I'm trying, heather, I am trying. >> Okay, I will see you tomorrow, looking forward to it. Let's wrap up one time with the national forecast once again. >> All right. Well, if you like -- if you like thunderstorms, then what I have to say is going to be some sweet music to your ears, because we're going to be talking thunderstorms. We've had a lot of heavy rain around northwestern ontario. This is our main low. But before I get to that, also the continuation of the trend that beef' seen this week and that is cool air across the west and very warm air in central and eastern canada. This excludes humidex values, it's going to feel well into the 0's in cities like toronto, ottawa and montreal as well. So toronto, yesterday, 29.7, your warmest day of the year. St. John's 18.4. That was your warmest day of the year and if you get 30° in montreal, you haven't done that yet this year, that will be your warmest day. But there is a price to be paid. So this is what we're showing you here is cape, think about this as the thunderstorm juice. This is one of many ingredients meteorologists look at to try to determine thunderstorm risk. See all of this dark red here near the ontario-quebec border? That could potentially be some of the most significant weather today. So anywhere from east of georgian bay across cottage country to the laurentians, northwards up towards val d'or, tam ming shores, but overnight of montreal, we have to watch for the risk of severe weather. There will be the risk anywhere in orange, including down towards the G.T.A. of thunderstorms. But between these two arrows, the tornado risk could happen there. So we want to make sure that we can find some where a safe location, like a basement or a room without any windows, you don't want to be out on the lake when a storm like this happens, whether it's tornadoes or not, you can get certainly hail, high winds and heavy rain. Speaking of heavy rain, from lake nip began towards kenora, yesterday, thunder bay, 45 millimeters of rain. That's a big soak. By tonight, we're going to be looking at that rain mixing over to snow showers as we get north of the trans-canada highway and we could pick up a few centimeters of snow in places north of lake anytime began. By friday, most of that dissipates. Cool temperatures, cooler temperatures in newfoundland, still very warm, away from the coastal areas of new brunswick, nova scotia, and pei, and you've got a couple of days of showers and thunderstorms, will dry up on the west coast this afternoon. >>The Great Canadian Baking Showis back. >> And the winner is... >> Alan, no, it's too soon for that.
