and we definitely did that. And, unfortunately, we just came one game short. >> Jacqueline: so close -- so close to that kupfer nando. Cup fernando. But that achievement of making it to the finals is a big one. And I mean your team was the last to do it for the oilers. But what is your advice for the team today in making that far even? >> You know what, looking back now, you don't want to have any regrets. You know, you want to make sure that every time that you step on the ice is that you're giving it your all, because you never know when you will get that opportunity again. And I wasn't fortunate enough to get that opportunity again. So, you know, those are the things that you look back and you sit there and, you know, you just don't want to have any what IFs, and I think that is the biggest thing and no regrets, knowing that you have given everything that you could and then just not looking back and saying what if -- but that's kind of the biggest message that I would send to the guys and enjoy the moment. It is, you know, your life is in a whirlwind of focus on the hockey and rightfully so. But just enjoying the little things and, you know, enjoying the experience of playing in a packed house and, you know, how loud the building gets. And just the little things that, you know, as a player that you're so focused on, you know, your mental prep and your game prep that you kind of lose sight of this is something that you dreamed of doing as a kid. And a lot of people would be, you know, love to be in that situation. So just to make sure that, guys, that you really enjoy it. >> Jacqueline: when you look back, do you have any regrets or what IFs, like you said? >> You know, I obviously wanted to win, that's kind -- you know, the one thing that -- you know, as a player you dream of winning and hoisting the stanley cup. And that's the only thing is that I was so close to getting in that situation, but, um, you know, I guess that is kind of the only regret. And the one thing you that will always remember and cherish is the friendships and the teammates and the camaraderie that you have built throughout that year and the highs and the lows of the season. And going through it with, you know, a very close group of guys is -- you know, it is something you that will always remember for sure. >> Jacqueline: when you are thinking about what it takes to get to this level, you're a scout now for the montréal canadiens. What do you look for in players when you are thinking about -- I mean, a, that they'll be able to play just at the nhl level. But that, you know, they'd have the potential to take a team far. >> Yeah, you know, as a scout you try to -- you try to identify guys that, um, you know, have high compete -- you know, able to high hockey I.Q. and those are a couple of things that you look for and kind of understanding positional play and how to create time and space. And getting into the good areas. Like, those are all things that you kind of evaluate as a scout and seeing who can make that jump. You know, these are young kids and, you know, you kind of take the knowledge that you have as a player and you trying to deduct what type of player that you're looking for. And one that can have success in the league and have a long career for sure. >> Jacqueline: ferfernando, before I let you go, I have to ask you how you think that this will play out. And you're in edmonton and I imagine that you're still an oilers fan. But how do you think that this is going to go? >> Well, you know, I'm a fan like everybody else now, and I am enjoying the games and they've been pretty tense, especially the last game -- the game seven. So the hockey has been fun to watch and it's been exciting and, you know, I'm rooting for them, you know, just like every other fan. >> Jacqueline: all right, fernando, it's a pleasure to speak with you and thank you so much for your time this afternoon. >> All right, thanks a lot, take care. >> Jacqueline: that's fernando pisani in edmonton, on the last oilers team to make it to the stanley cup final. >> Andrew: coming up, red lobster is asking for provincial court to recognize and enforce its U.S. bankruptcy filing in canada. ( ) >> Andrew: for several years residents of surrey, b.c., have been entangled in a hotly contested issue regarding the local police force. Now a judge ruled that plans for a municipal police force in surrey, british columbia, will move forward. And the transition away from the rcmp was ordered by the province over concerns of rcmp staffing shortages elsewhere in the province. Surrey city council sought to have that order overturned. According to b.c.'s public safety minister mike farnworth, the B.C. supreme court has ruled in favour of the province. >> Today justice liu ordered in favour of the transition of the surrey police service continuing. The safety of people in surrey and across british columbia has always been my main priority. And every action that I have taken has been rooted in ensuring safe and effective policing so when people call 911, they know that help is on the way. People of surrey want this to be over. And I am hopeful that today's ruling is the time to come together, and to work towards completing the transition to the surrey police service. >> Andrew: surrey city council has yet to respond to news of the court rules but has previously expressed concerns about both public safety and the costs of a municipal squad.

>>> The canadian operations of red lobster are taking the next formal step into the bankruptcy process. Lawyers will ask an ontario court to apply the U.S. ruling here so that restaurants and staff can start to sort out their future under creditor protection. Jeannie lee is joining us now. So, jeannie, bring us up to date on this file. >> Jeannie: well, andrew, we have a court date now and it's may 28th which is next tuesday. That's when the court will hear this application to have that U.S. chapter 11 rules apply here in canada to cover the canadian operations. So we will -- be able to under that application, if it is enforced, formally to see the operations here able to ward off creditors while figuring out what is next. So the next step in this, which landed five days ago, here's just a glimpse of what we saw on sunday -- the court filing, notifying that chapter 11 had been -- um, applied for in florida, and it named 15 debtors, including a lead debtor which is red lobster management, l.l.c., and red lobster canada and red lobster sourcing and supplies, so covering a whole swath of this company, if not the entire company. Now getting most of the blame is what we were looking at a moment ago -- a bunch of shrimp -- endless shrimp, in fact. And that motion in the summer became a regular menu feature and become a lost leader, and I emphasize the word loss, because that cost them $11 million and that was a hole that it could not dig itself out of. So chapter 11 means that the company can keep operating even if it owes a lot of money, and the creditors can't beat down the doors and ask for their cash it. Gives them time and breathing room and the ability to think about what can happen. It usually means downsizing and shutting down unprofitable stores, and the most unprofitable stores. And just to be able to live another day in some reduced form. So quite a come down from this company, I'm sure, andrew, you that will remember many family doctors -- or maybe not since you came from the land of really great lobster. [laughter] nova scotia. But, yeah, across canada, and the u.s., 700 stores in the heyday in the 1980s and the 1990s in particular, but really a diminished chain in the last 10 years in particular. >> Andrew: you might be right that my family prefers the fresh lobster. >> Jeannie: the real stuff. >> Andrew: I would say. And what is the word on bay street and wall street as thursday trading draws to a close. >> Jeannie: the word is fear. For some reason -- but I can only say that, um, these markets have been driven to record highs recently. And especially late yesterday a big surge on the expectation that A.I. would rule the day and the future. And, in fact, yes, invidia had much better than expected results and upped their prediction for the rest of the year and, in fact, the C.E.O. declared this is a start of the next industrial revolution. A.I. and, yes, some spots in the markets did go a little bit nuts on that. But the rest seem to have really taken to heart the remarks by the U.S. fed that there is still not enough progress on inflation. So down go the markets on the prospect of no rate cuts anytime soon in the u.s.. And you have the dow jones index down 605 points and the nasdaq market is now down 101 points. Here's a quick look at the dollar and oil and gold all lower on the day. Andrew? ( ) There's so much pressure these days. Work doesn't seem to stop. And parenting never does. Toronto is granted an expansion franchise with the women's national basketball association out of the U.S. here's some of the announcement from this morning. >> I'll never forget last year at scotiabank arena, where I attended our toronto game and, um, lots of people coming up to me and saying, thank you for making my dreams come true. By bringing a wnba game here. That is when I knew this is the right place as we're thinking about expansion. And the tens of thousands and hopefully the millions of girls inspired that day, um, it is just something that you cannot replicate without bringing a team here to canada. So with that, I am honoured to officially announce that we have awarded the city of toronto, the 14th wnba franchise. [Cheers and Applause] >> Jacqueline: the home base of this new women's basketball team will be in toronto. Fans in vancouver and montréal will get a chance to experience these games in person as well. And it all begins in may of 2026. As for the name of the new team -- well, that has not yet been decided.

>>> Well, the police officer who arrested the world's number one men's golfer last week has been disciplined for not wearing a body camera during the arrest. Louisville police updated the case involving scottie scheffler earlier today. He's accused of not following orders when entering the golf course and striking an officer. Steve futterman has more from los angeles. >> Reporter: well, scottie scheffler said it was a misunderstanding and today they discussed the facts of the case and they brought up one potentially serious part of this case -- the detective who arrested scottie scheffler, did have body cam on him but not operating when the arrest took place and that could complicate everything. Here's the louisville police chief. >> Detective gillis did have an encounter as we know with mr. Scottie scheffler. Detective gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera but did not. His failure to do so is a violation of lnpd policy on uniforms and equipment, subject category body worn camera, and he was 4.31.6 procedures and 4.13.16 operation. Detective gillis did not have his body-worn camera operationally ready as required by our policy. >> Reporter: now the body cam footage would be the best evidence in this case. Without it could allow the defence attorneys to make arguments that the entire case should be dropped. And, in fact, that's what they're doing right now. Now the mayor of louisville said at the very end that he hopes that all sides can come together and to find some way to move forward. There is an arrangement scheduled for next week that scottie scheffler would have to appear in court but the mayor says that he hopes that everyone can move forward. That sounds like a signal to make a plea bargain agreement or have scottie scheffler to apologise and to have the charges dropped or have a minimal charge continued. Right now he faces at the moment one very serious charge of felony assault charge against a police officer. That is the most serious charge. In cases like this we sometimes see a high-profile defendant make an apology, plead guilty to a very minor misdemeanor charge, and the case basically goes away. I think that a lot of phone calls will be taking place in the next week. Obviously, scottie scheffler would like it to go away but his attorney says he does not want to plead guilty to anything because he feels he didn't do anything wrong. >> Jacqueline: that's steve futterman in los angeles.

[intense] - -[crowd cheers] ( ) ( ) ( ) >> Andrew: let's take a look now at the weather conditions where you are with matt hamel at the weather network. >> Matt: well, I'll start our national forecast across western canada. We have cooler temperatures for the prairies, a fairly quiet day for british columbia's south coast. But we could see some storms into b.c.'s interior, parts of alberta as well, for our thursday afternoon. Small hail, heavy rain and strong wind gusts could be the factor as those storms flare up. A bit of rain associated with that as well, not a big soaker of an event by any stretch. Tomorrow we also see the threat of some storms in parts of B.C. and into alberta and now stretching into parts of southern saskatchewan, so we'll keep our eye on that for our friday. For the prairies as a whole, we see more of a soaker of a system into southern manitoba and that will build into our friday, maybe lingering a bit into saturday. Look for parts of winnipeg and southern manitoba, 50 plus millimetres of rain in the forecast with that system. Now warmer temperatures are on the way for the eastern prairies in particular. Look at regina for monday, 18°, jumping up to 24° by tuesday. So that's going to be a warm-up there. And meanwhile as I mentioned fairly quiet for b.c.'s south coast but that won't last for long as we have wet weather building into the region in the days ahead. So we'll keep our eye on that and a cooler temperature for vancouver on sunday, but rebounding nicely early into the work week. Meanwhile for eastern canada, that's where we have severe weather on tap for our thursday. So we tracked all of these stormy activities and even tornado warnings yesterday in ontario with this same system. And severe storms for a good chunk of new brunswick and a small sliver of québec as well. And we have seen storms this morning but it's really the afternoon when things get going with that more severe storm
