>>> There was a solidarity rally today at a jewish girls school in toronto after shots were fired in the building over the weekend. Parents, supporters, and politicians at the event condemned the shooting incident as antisemitic. >> We're hang grit and shocked, angry that we need to support to at-large. Having said that, we wish we didn't need to have such rallies because it's difficult to welcome students back to school after such a shocking incident. The crime that took place was really, a real display of antisemitism and it's traumatic. It's really traumatic for our students to have to come back to this. They don't deserve to come back to something like this. >> Andrew: can you tell me a little bit about that rabbi, in terms of what it was like to welcome back the students, see the parents speak with the students and the parents this morning, how are they feeling? >> Well, there was a lot of fear, a lot of anxiety, and a lot of shock. People are concerned. They are very, very concerned about the safety of the students, the staff, and we share that concern and it's difficult. >> Andrew: what went through your mind when you first learned about the shooting on saturday morning, has the school ever experienced anything like this? >> Well, what went through my mind is that I was utterly shocked and appalled that such a thing could happen. >> Andrew: the public safety minister, the federal public safety minister dominic LeBLANC said the rcmp is involved in the investigation. Let's listen to what he had to say. >> I had a chance on the weekend and again this morning to talk to the rcmp, who informed me they are working collaboratively with the toronto police service. The toronto police service has extensive experience in investigating this kind of serious crime. The rcmp has a great deal of confidence in the work of the toronto police service, but the rcmp obviously has a responsibility from a national security context and they are very much engaged with the toronto police service. >> Andrew: so rabbi, I'm curious, what did you make of that? The federal public safety minister is involved, in his words, the rcmp is now assisting the toronto police service because of the national security context of this. >> So, it's refreshing and I really, really hope that the pep traitors are caught and they are brought to justice because we definitely need to put an end to this because as I said before, children deserve to go to school and feel safe about it. Children deserve to learn and feel confident and not be afraid. Children are innocent and should never ever be a target of any crime. >> Andrew: how does a society, how does an end to this happen? >> Well, hopefully if there is justice and if there is major rise in antisemitism and that is debt with appropriately on the different levels of government, it will stop and people will be able to respect other religions. We should be able to practise our religion freely and in a safe way. >> Andrew: do you feel as though the authorities have responded well to this incident? >> So, we are grateful to the toronto police service. They really been here for us since the incident happened. They are here right now at the school to reassure us that they're here, and that makes us the parents, the students feel a degree of certain safety and we

hope to see continued police presence at other jewish schools and at synagogues, places of worship, where members of the jewish community are very concerned at this point in time. They really want to feel safe for doing what they feel is the right thing to do, expressing their religion freely. >> Andrew: what are your thoughts on the encampments that are happening in the universities in canada and the united states? >> It is extremely sad that this is allowed to happen because all it does is it promotes hatred instead of promoteing equal rights to everyone and people should be able to have their opinions, but it should be in a respectable way and not the way it's happening right now. It promotes hatred and I'm afraid to say that perhaps this is why we're seeing the rise in antisemitism because the hatred is promoted and it keeps spreading and it's really sad. >> Andrew: do you think -- I mean that's the only thing that is happening at the encampments, a promotion of hatred? Could there also be others that are just concerned about the war and civilians being killed? >> There are ways to voice concerns about whatever their concerns are. I think there is definitely a lot of hatred being tolerated. >> Andrew: rabbi, I appreciate you taking the time. >> Thank you, have a great day. >> Andrew: that's the principal of an elementary school in toronto. These two children, age 2 and 3 were abducted about 30 kilometres east of quebec city. The suspect is for a 30-year-old. The amber alert does not mention how the suspect is connected to the children. Police want people to keep an eye out for a white honda civic with a black hood, quebec licence plate number 53vace. If you see the vehicle, the suspect, or the toddlers, police say you should call 9-1-1 immediately.

>>> New brunswick premier blaine higgs says he will ban in-school presentations from a sex education group from quebec. He said the non-profit group misrepresented the content it would be sharing with students and went beyond the provincial curriculum in the materials they used. The cbc's brett ruskin is in halifax with more. >> Reporter: this all began as a result of a post on x formally twitter from the premier's personal account. Blaine higgs posted he is furious with what he saw when someone sent him a picture, a snap of a presentation that was happening in a new brunswick school. On this one slide, there were questions like do girls masturbate? Will it hurt when I do it for the first time? That will typically come up during a sex ed class or workshop. There would be questions like this perhaps the presentation was being done by a group called H.P.V. global action. They were there to talk about sexually transmitted infections. The topic on this slide went far beyond the scope of what this group was there to present about. The premier said they revoked their opportunity, their future dates to go and present in front of schools, to share information about h.p.v., about sexually transmitted infections, information to students and the province is reviewing their policies around third party presentations like this in new brunswick schools. Now at the end of the note from premier blaine higgs, there is a link to the P.C. party website where people can answer how concerned they are about this issue, about this topic and also sign up to volunteer for the party if they so choose. Perhaps some public feedback being collected as to how much new brunswickers care about this issue. As for the charity, they are left scratching they're heads. They said they have been doing presentations like this for years. They have been presenting at four different new brunswick schools, that all of the material and content that they present fall within the new brunswick curriculum and that specific material is approved by the schools themselves. So, they are left with no longer an opportunity to share the messaging around sexually transmitted ifections and the work they're doing. They asked the premier's office for more details about this decision, what it might mean going forward. We have yet to receive a response from them. Brett ruskin, cbc news, halifax. >> Andrew: coming up, more than 2,000 people could have been buried under the terrible landslide and treacherous terrain is dashing hopes of finding Michael j. At least 18 of her family members were feared dead after this landslide, which crashed through six villages. Many people in those communities would have been sleeping in their homes at the time. Days have passed since the terrible moment and still residents on the ground are using sticks, even their bare hands to sheep through -- shift through the debris to reach any survivors. All they're finding so far are dead bodies. There is a wider rescue and recovery effort going on here but they're facing significant challenges. Tribal warfare in the area forced rescue and aid workers to return to the provincial capital every night because it's not safe for them. Even when they can get to the sight, the conditions are extremely treacherous. >> The problem is it is so deep that it's very difficult to recover bodies from underneath the heavy debris.
