Cathal Pendred Tweets That He'll Be CM Punk's First UFC Opponent
During the UFC 181: Hendricks vs. Lawler II pay-per-view broadcast on Dec. 6, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that it had signed a multi-fight deal with former WWE star Phil “CM Punk” Brooks. Brooks is expected to make his Octagon debut sometime in 2015. Who he'll face in his mixed martial arts debut is unknown. But Cathal Pendred believes it will be him.

UFC president Dana White said after the signing of Brooks that he doesn't want to throw the former WWE champion to the wolves right out of the gate. The 36-year-old Brooks doesn't have any professional fighting experience. White plans to match him up against an opponent with comparable experience for his first fight.

“We're not going to throw the kitchen sink at him,” White recently told ESPN.com. “He is going to fight a guy who is 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 — something like that.”
Pendred has a 15-3-1 record. He's 2-0 in the UFC after appearing on the nineteenth season of The Ultimate Fighter reality series. He was defeated in the semifinals by eventual TUF 19 middleweight winner Eddie Gordon.
The UFC hasn't yet announced whom Brooks will face in 2015. And Brooks wasn't certain what weight class he'd compete in four days ago when the announcement of his signing was made. But that doesn't necessarily rule out Pendred.
