Castleford centre Sam Wood has been ruled out for the season with a shoulder injury picked up on international duty.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury on his England debut against France last week.

Wood had been ever-present for Cas in Super League this year, with three tries in 15 appearances.

"He needs a reconstruction. So as great as the international recognition was for Sam it's not been great news for us," head coach Craig Lingard told BBC Radio Leeds.

"He's probably been our most consistent player this season.

"Hopefully that cap is the first of many for him but unfortunately for us it's a blow to lose him."

Castleford are 10th in the Super League table, having lost 11 of their 15 matches this campaign.

"It could have been worse so we try and look at it as a glass half-full not half-empty situation. He'll be back for pre-season," Lingard added.
