Cassano slams Cardinale for recent struggles: “Milan belongs to the fans”
Given the start to the season, as well as a controversial interview that was published recently, AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale has been taking a lot of heat. Antonio Cassano, the former Rossoneri player, is the latest to share criticism.
Cassano hasn’t exactly been appreciated by Milan fans in recent years, labelling himself an Inter fan and slamming Rafael Leao week in and week out. The 42-year-old doesn’t exactly care about that, though, and has continued to make his voice heard.
Speaking on the podcast Viva El Futbol, as transcribed by internews24, Cassano shared his thoughts on Cardinale and his recent words in the Harvard interview. He made it clear that the American is going about his ownership in the wrong way, especially by not showing himself in Italy.
“One, Milan is not yours, it belongs to the people, they have to explain it to them in America. Milan is one of the most important teams in the world. Milan, at worst, in a year where it is going badly, must fight to win something. He who thinks: ‘I will make it reach 5 billion, 6 billion, 10 billion’, for his own interests. No no, dear Cardinal, and dear Furlani.
“Two, Milan belongs to the fans, let’s remember. And it’s not that you’re in America minding your own business, doing what you want, the Boston Celtics, watching baseball and other things. Milan is serious stuff, come and show your face and make professionals work and not Furlani, who doesn’t know where to turn, who doesn’t know the legends of Milan,” he stated.
It remains to be seen what will happen in the second half of the season, but it’s clear that the Rossoneri need to improve a lot. Otherwise they will miss out on top four, and Cardinale will have reduced the revenue opportunities himself.
