Cash and gifts: What 2024 MLB All-Star players received for playing the game

By all accounts, the 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star game and the week of activities were a hit for players, fans and the city of Arlington.

Starting with the HBCU Swingman Classic last Friday, the celebrity softball game on Saturday, Monday’s thrilling home run derby and the legendary mid-summer classic Tuesday at Globe Life Stadium, a good old Texas time was had by all.

But the All-Star was not just fun and games for the players. It was also an opportunity for them to cash in money and gifts.

Players could earn as much as $36,325 if they cooperated fully with MLB in the event.

It’s well documented that the winning team receives a $25,000 prize per player.

But if a player opts to wear a microphone for the broadcast, they can receive an extra $10,000 bonus. In addition, they receive a $117.50 per day food benefit and $1,000 in spending cash for the event.

Six players, thanks to having a good agent, received big bonuses in their contract for making the All-Star game, totaling $350,000.

Leading the way was Carlos Correa of the Minnesota Twins. He will get $100,000 for his appearance.

Getting $50,000 from their respective teams are Bryce Harper, Matt Strahm and Trea Turner of the Philadelphia Phillies, Christian Yelich from the Milwaukee Brewers and Bryan Reynolds from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

According to the Major League Baseball Players Association, participants also get:

  • Six complimentary tickets to the All-Star Game and home run derby for use by your guests.

  • First class airfare for you and two guests.

  • First class hotel accommodations for you and two guests. Up to two rooms for a maximum of three days.

  • Special mementos along with merchandise that is made available by MLB business partners.

Players were also rewarded by their individual sponsors.

“We get some pretty sick new new gear from our sponsor companies,” New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso said. “I’m a Nike guy. I get some slick new cleats,. new turf batting gloves, a lot of love fun stuff like that. It’s super cool.”

Alonso made his fourth all-star appearance.

He said they all are special but has certainly enjoyed his time in Arlington this week with all the festivities.

“The players association put on a great party Monday night (at AT&T Stadium),” Alonso said. “So there were a lot of different things and events ... it has been really cool.

“It’s been spectacular,” Alonso said. “Every single All-Star Game is a blessing. It’s something that I don’t take for granted for sure.”
