Carter Yakemchuk Breaks Calgary Hitmen Record

He may not be headed to the World Juniors, but he's going to make sure you know his name regardless.

Calgary Hitmen blueliner Carter Yakemchuk made team history on Friday night, setting a new record for career goals as a defenceman. Friday's tally gave him 64 in his WHL career, surpassing Matt Kinch; a mark set in the 2000-01 season.

Yakemchuck spent a considerable amount of time in the Ottawa Senators training camp prior to rejoining the Hitmen this season, even tallying a preseason goal, but his presence was dearly missed on Calgary's blue line. As of Sunday's contest against the Swift Current Broncos, the Fort McMurray, Alta. native potted career goal no. 65, upping his season total to 12 in 24 games.

The 2024 Senators draft pick is making sure he snags himself a spot in The Show in the fall of 2025.
