How Caroline Harvey Faced And Overcame Adversity
After a lower body injury that took her out for seven games last season, Wisconsin Junior Caroline Harvey had to overcome a lot of adversity.
“It took a toll on me physically and mentally,” Harvey said. Still, she remembered “there was light at the end of the tunnel.”
On October 19, Harvey suffered a knee injury against Bemidji State. Harvey missed seven games for the Badgers.
“Couldn’t do it without the team behind me, the medical staff, and coaches,” Harvey said of her comeback.
Harvey’s motivation to get back was her team
“I wanted to get back so bad, it was just the drive to get back with the team.” Harvey also wanted to prove others wrong.
“I was kinda thinking people counted me out, I wanted to prove people wrong.”
Harvey’s motivation paid off in the off-season through the numerous accolades she received. Harvey was a Patty Kazmaier Top-10 Finalist, WHCA Defender of the Year, and an ACHA First-Team All-American. Harvey finished the season with five goals and 30 assists, a +54 rating, and averaged 1.09 points per game in her 32 games.
Harvey’s leadership skills on and off the ice were noticed by the Badgers coaching staff as Harvey was given the honor of wearing the “C” for the upcoming season. The last Junior to be named captain for the Badgers was Carla MacLeod in 2003-04.
“I didnt know that, that’s crazy,” Harvey said of being named captain as a Junior “I felt very honored and grateful that the coaches trusted me and I’m excited for this leadership group.”
Looking ahead, Harvey explained she is eager for the upcoming season with the Badgers’ new faces.
“Looking forward to getting back into games,” she said. “So excited for the freshmen we have this year, just excited for the first game we have on Friday at the barn”
The Badgers will face off against Lindenwood at 7PM CST this Friday.
