Grimaldi has been one of the best players in the AHL over the last three seasons. He finished second in the league in points and third in goals last season with 36 goals and 73 points in 72 games. He played in the All-Star Game and made the AHL Second All-Star Team.
The 31-year-old has 370 points in 433 career AHL games and has been above a point-per-game the last three seasons. He led Team USA in points with 14 in 10 games at the 2023 IIHF World Championship. He has 67 points in 203 career NHL games.
A second round pick of Florida in 2011, Grimaldi is spent last year with the Chicago Wolves when they were independently owned. He could play an energetic bottom-six role for the Hurricanes and could shoulder the offensive load if he returns to the AHL.

Skyler Brind'Amour, son of Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour, signed a two-year AHL deal with the Charlotte Checkers after winning the 2023 NCAA Championship with Quinnipiac University.
He spent last season with Florida's AHL affiliate and recorded eight points in 54 games. Tony Androckitis of Inside AHL Hockey reports that Brind'Amour and Charlotte have mutually parted ways and that he will be joining the Carolina organization.
The 25-year-old was originally selected in the sixth round of the 2017 draft by the Edmonton Oilers.
Skyler Brind'Amour originally signed 2-year AHL deal with Charlotte through 2024-25. Sources say Charlotte & Brind'Amour mutually agreed to terminate final year of deal.
