Carolina Hurricanes Quarter Century Teams Revealed

The NHL is revealing quarter century teams for every team in the league and today, they revealed the Carolina Hurricanes First and Second Quarter-Century Teams.

The members were voted on by a panel comprised of local media, retired players and club executives.


First Team

Sebastian Aho - Rod Brind'Amour - Eric Staal

Cam Ward

  • Sebastian Aho has played 643 games for the Hurricanes from 2016-2025. He has registered 267 goals (3rd most), 334 assists (3rd) and 601 points (3rd). The Finnish center is also the franchise leader in shorthanded goals (18), game-winning goals (59) and every playoff scoring category (27 goals, 43 assists and 70 points in 74 games).

  • Rod Brind'Amour played 694 games for the Hurricanes from 2000-2010. He had 174 goals, 299 assists (4th) and 473 points (5th) and captain the team to their one and only Stanley Cup in 2006. He also had 18 goals and 38 points in 72 playoff games. Brind'Amour had his number retired by the team and is now the current head coach.

  • Eric Staal played 909 games with the Hurricanes from 2003-2016. He had 322 goals (2nd), 453 assists (2nd) and 775 points (2nd) in the regular season and 19 goals, 24 assists and 43 points in 43 playoff games with Carolina. He had the team's only 100-point season in 2006 and also led the team in scoring for the Stanley Cup run that year too. Staal served as captain of the team after Brind'Amour and his number was recently retired by the franchise.

  • Jaccob Slavin has played 710 games with the Hurricanes, the fifth-most in team history, from 2015-2025. He has 52 goals, 234 assists and 286 points (first among defensemen) in those games. Slavin, a two-time Lady Byng winner, has consistently been one of the best defensive defensemen in the league.

  • Glen Wesley played 538 games with the Hurricanes from 2000-2008, although he was a member of the franchise from 1994-2008. In the new century, Wesley had 20 goals, 75 assists and 95 points and was also a member of the 2006 Stanley Cup team. He was an original member of the very first Carolina team and was overall a steadying presence and leader on the blueline and is one of four players to have his number retired by the franchise.

  • Cam Ward played 668 games with the Hurricanes from 2005-2018. He started 569 games and had a 318-244-84 record (1st in wins) with a 0.909 save percentage (4th) and 2.70 goals (7th) against average and 27 shutouts (1st). Ward also helped lead the team to the Stanley Cup in 2006 with a 15-8 record, 0.920 save percentage and two shutouts, capturing the Conn Smythe in the process.


Second Team

Ron Francis - Jordan Staal - Justin Williams

  • Ron Francis played 355 games with the Hurricanes from 2000-2004 but was with the franchise from 1981-1991 and again from 1998-2004. In total franchise history, he's the leader in games played (1,186), goals (382), assists (793), points (1,175) and power play goals (132), but in the century, he had 88 goals, 183 assists and 271 points. Francis is a former captain, Hall-of-Famer, regarded as one of the top 100 players in NHL history and was the Hurricanes' general manager from 2014-2018.

  • Jordan Staal has played 867 games with the Hurricanes, the fourth most, from 2012-2025 and is the current captain. He has 174 goals, 276 assists (7th) and 450 points (6th) in the regular season and 13 goals, 21 assists and 34 points in 74 playoff games. Staal has helped the team transition back into a true contender and his two-way game has made him a Selke-caliber player.

  • Justin Williams played 449 games with the Hurricanes split over two stints from 2004-2009 and 2017-2020. Williams had 128 goals, 188 assists and 316 points in his time as a Cane and even served as captain upon his return to the franchise. Williams was a key piece of both the 2006 Cup run as well as the team's resurgence.

  • Justin Faulk played 559 games with the Hurricanes from 2011-2019. He scored 85 goals, the most by any blueliner in team history, 173 assists and 258 points (2nd). Faulk served as a co-captain on the team briefly, and was one of the lone bright spots on the team during the extended playoff drought of the 2010s.

  • Bret Hedican played 369 games with the Hurricanes from 2002-2008. He had 19 goals, 82 assists and 101 points as a Cane and was a key contributor on both Stanley Cup Final teams, playing over 22 minutes a night in both years.

  • Arturs Irbe played 309 games for the Hurricanes from 1998-2004. He had a 130-122-44 record (2nd most wins) with a 0.906 save percentage (6th), 2.49 goals against average (5th) and 20 shutouts (2nd). The nontraditional netminder stood at just 5-foot-8, but played way bigger than that and helped lead Carolina to the Stanley Cup Final in 2002 with his 0.938 save percentage and 1.67 goals against average.


Once all franchises’ teams are announced, a league-wide fan vote will take place to determine the NHL Quarter-Century Team. Voting will take place Feb. 12-26 on NHL.com and X, with results to be announced at a later date.
