Carolina Hurricanes Make First Cuts, Roster Down to 25
The Carolina Hurricanes have announced a myriad of roster cuts as they work to finalize their opening night roster before Monday's 5 p.m. deadline.
The Canes have reassigned 15 players to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL, one to Europe and released two players from PTOs.
The following players have been assigned to the AHL:
Goaltenders Spencer Martin, Yaniv Perets and Ruslan Khazheyev; forwards Bradly Nadeau, Felix Unger Sorum, Noel Gunler, Justin Robidas, Juha Jaaska, Skyler Brind’Amour and Gleb Trikozov; and defensemen Aleksi Heimosalmi, Scott Morrow, Charles-Alexis Legault, Domenick Fensore and Ronan Seeley.
In addition, Anttoni Honka was not assigned to the AHL, and instead was loaned to HC Ajoie of the Swiss National League.
It was reported last year that Honka had refused to report to the ECHL after the Hurricanes' debacle with the Wolves forced them to be without an AHL affiliate and so with him more than likely going to be on the outside looking in for making Chicago's roster too, this is probably the best move.
Also, Rocco Grimaldi and Sam Gagner were released from their PTOs.

The Canes current roster has 25 players currently on it and they'll need to get that number down to 23 by Monday to be compliant.
The roster currently includes defensemen Riley Stillman and Joakim Ryan, who are both injured, and Bryce Montgomery who was just signed to a three-year ELC.

Also, Brendan Lemieux, Eric Robinson and Tyson Jost are all still with the team competing for the final lineup spots on the fourth line.
But besides them, Jackson Blake is also still with the team, so perhaps he is in the running for a spot too.
Other than those players, everyone else who you'd expect to make the Hurricanes' roster is on it.
