Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has sent a direct request to the club’s board, regarding the current state of his squad.

That’s according to The Athletic’s Mario Cortegana, who has confirmed that Ancelotti is of the opinion that his options are lacking in one particular area.

That in question? Central defence.

The subject of the heart of defence has of course positioned itself front and centre in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the week to date.

This comes after Real Madrid were forced to face up to a key transfer target taking his talents elsewhere.

After laying the groundwork to bring in Lille sensation Leny Yoro for several months now, Los Blancos were unwilling to match the financial outlay offered up by Manchester United, with the stopper having in turn taken his talents to Old Trafford, instead.

With Nacho having also opted to bring his stint at the Santiago Bernabéu to a close this summer, it is therefore safe to say that, all of a sudden, the Spanish champions’ options at the back are beginning to look a little thin.

In turn, it should not come as much of a surprise to hear of boss Ancelotti having set his sights on fresh blood, before the transfer window comes to a close.

As per The Athletic:

‘Ancelotti has asked for a centre-back to be signed.’ Unfortunately for the Italian, however, it is concluded that ‘but he knows one may not arrive’.
