Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has on Saturday night moved to lavish praise on a leading member of his midfield ranks.

The player in question? Luka Modrić.

Real were of course back in action a short time ago, marking the club’s post-international break return in a La Liga meeting with Celta Vigo.

When all was said and done in a hard-fought affair, Los Blancos emerged on the right side of a 2-1 result, owing to goals on the part of Kylian Mbappé, and Vinícius Jr.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle at Balaídos, it was another member of his squad, however, whom Carlo Ancelotti was quick to credit for Real’s three-point haul.

After Luka Modrić emerged from the bench to lay on Vinícius’ winner courtesy of a sumptuous defence-splitting pass, Ancelotti gushed:

“Luka Modrić is fantastic. His pass was fantastic. He saved us. He always helps us, no matter if he starts or not. He’s unbelievable. A fantastic player.”
