Cardiff City have held talks about signing Peterborough United forward Ricky-Jade Jones as Bluebirds manager Omer Riza targets "three or four" new players in January.

The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions for the League One side this season.

As Jones is out of contract at the end of this campaign, the pacey forward could be available for a reduced fee.

However, even if Jones was to leave for free in the summer, his age means Peterborough would be able to claim a fee decided by a tribunal.

"There's been discussions regarding Ricky-Jade Jones and we will see how that progresses," said Riza.

"At the moment, all we can say is that the discussions are taking place, obstacles are in the way which we've spoken about previously, which is whether players want to come to our club or whether we can afford to sign them for our club, whether it's right for us to bring those players in and whether they'll be impactful.

"We have to make sure we get that right. But definitely the process has begun for three or four players to come in.

"There's a whole host of players we are looking at, in respect of pace in the top line, creativity and impact. He [Jones] is one of a list of players we've spoken about."

Riza has identified Cardiff's blunt attack and lack of pace as two areas he wants to improve during the January transfer window.

The Bluebirds, who are second from bottom of the Championship, are among the division's lowest scorers.

Jones would certainly add speed to the attack, as his personal best 100m time is reportedly 10.9 seconds.

Cardiff have also been linked with a loan move for teenage Liverpool striker Jayden Danns, but Riza played down that speculation.

"We haven't had discussions regarding Jayden Danns at present," he added.

"But there are a list of players we are looking at."
