Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Cardiff City have held talks with Kortrijk head coach Freyr Alexandersson. The Icelandic coach was resonsible for Kortrijk’s great escape last season and had been seen as an option for Union St Gilloise in the summer. However, now that there is a vacancy at Kortrijk’s sister club, Alexandersson is heavily linked. The newspaper reports that he spent some time last week in the Welsh capital to hold talks with the club.

This would certainly be a blow to Kortrijk, who had hoped that under Alexandersson they would enjoy a stable season in the Pro League after flirting with relegation the last two campaigns. However, Alexandersson is ambitious and has already spoken about his desire to manage in English football.

Cardiff are currently sitting rock bottom of the Championship with just one point from six games. Given the job Alexandersson did last season for Kortrijk in a similar position, it is clear why Vincent Tan considers him to be a good option to help the club avoid being embroiled in a relegation scrap.
