Capitals vs. Oilers Preview: Line Combinations, Stats, Storylines To Watch

The Washington Capitals are hoping that their impressive play of late follows them on the road, as they kick off a lengthy trip to the Pacific Northwest with a showdown against the Edmonton Oilers.

Here's everything to know before puck drop at 9 p.m. ET as the Capitals look to extend their winning streak to five games and point streak to 11.

Washington Capitals Line Combinations

The Capitals won't have any lineup changes, as they stick with what's worked for them and look for Dylan Strome and Alex Ovechkin to rediscover the spark they had at 5-on-5.

Logan Thompson will get the start, making his fifth consecutive appearance between the pipes.

- Pierre-Luc Dubois has three points in his last three games and leads the Capitals in scoring since Nov. 10 with 32 points over the last 28 games.

- Jakob Chychrun has points in three of his last five games and ranks third in scoring among all NHL defensemen.

- Brandon Duhaime and Nic Dowd also have three points in their last three games.

- Logan Thompson was the NHL's First Star of the Week this past week with a 3-0-0 run, two shutouts and .984 save percentage in his last three starts. He ranks second in the league in save percentage.

Washington Capitals Storylines

- Keep an eye on Aliaksei Protas, who busted out of a bit of a recent slide with a multi-point outing in Saturday's win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The same goes for Connor McMichael, who picked up two assists.

- Alex Ovechkin sits 21 goals away from passing Wayne Gretzky for the most goals in NHL history and gets to continue that historic chase in Edmonton.
