Capitals Recall Henrik Rybinski From Hershey Bears With Lars Eller On IR
ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals made some emergency roster moves on Saturday, giving Henrik Rybinski his first-ever NHL recall.
Washington brought up Rybinski from the AHL's Hershey Bears while placing Lars Eller on the injured reserve as he deals with an illness. He will not be back until after the holiday break, nor will captain Alex Ovechkin.
Though there is a roster freeze, teams can make recalls during this time.
The 23-year-old has been having an impressive season with Hershey, racking up six goals and 14 assists for 20 points through 28 games.
He also had a strong showing with Washington in the preseason as he worked to make his case as a call-up option over the course of the year, and coach Spencer Carbery said during training camp that he was trending in the right direction while working to put himself on the organization's radar.
"I feel like I (put) in a good effort," Rybinski said of his training camp performance. "All I can do is try to go out there and do my best, and I feel like I've done that. I'm pretty happy."
Rybinski could very well make his NHL debut on either Sunday or Monday, with Washington needing fresh bodies for a pre-holiday back-to-back series with the Los Angeles Kings and Boston Bruins.
