Capitals Place Chychrun On IR, Recall Iorio From Hershey
WASHINGTON — The Washington Capitals will be without Jakob Chychrun for a bit longer, as the defenseman has officially been placed on the injured reserve while Vincent Iorio comes up from the AHL's Hershey Bears.
Chychrun, who suffered an upper-body injury early in Tuesday's win over the New York Rangers, will miss at least the next two games of action — which would just be the weekend back-to-back — as he goes on the IR. If it's retroactive to his injury, he would be able to return Wednesday against the Nashville Predators if he's ready.
The 26-year-old was skating in a non-contact jersey back on Thursday but did not stay on for the entirety of the morning skate. He also took the ice for a family skate with his dog, Bruce, on Friday.

Placing Chychrun on IR allows the team to make an insurance recall and frees up a roster spot, so it speaks louder volumes there as opposed to the seriousness of the injury.
With Iorio also recalled, it looks like Matt Roy, who remains on the IR, will also remain out of the mix for Washington. Roy has missed the last eight games due to a lower-body injury he suffered in the season opener and has also been skating in a non-contact jersey.
Iorio has appeared in nine games for the AHL's Hershey Bears this season, picking up a goal and two assists while posting a plus/minus rating of plus-3.
The Capitals are in for a busy weekend, as they host the Columbus Blue Jackets at 5 p.m. on Saturday before heading to Carolina to take on the Hurricanes on Sunday at 6 p.m.
It's unclear whether or not Iorio will draw into the lineup at some point or if head coach Spencer Carbery will stick with the same formation that dressed against the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
