Capitals Notebook: Lindgren Returns To Crease, Carbery Talks Goalie Rotation & Keys To Sparking 5-on-5 Offense vs. Kraken
After five consecutive stellar outings from Logan Thompson, the Washington Capitals are switching things up between the pipes, giving Charlie Lindgren the opportunity to get back in the net against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday.
Lindgren will start against Seattle, coach Spencer Carbery announced, marking his first game since suffering an injury on Jan. 10 against the Montreal Canadiens.
Per Carbery, each game is an "independent decision" when it comes to which goaltender will start, and Thompson started last game because of his hot streak and Lindgren still getting back in the rhythm after injury.
While Washington is happy with its defensive play of late, the offense remains an issue, as Carbery wants to see more shots and offensive opportunities from his forward lines at 5-on-5.
Over the course of the team's 11-game point streak, the Capitals rank seventh-to-last in shots per game, but second in goals against per game.
"We're defending way too much. We don't have the puck enough and we know that and we're continuing to work and talk about it and find ways we can do a better job," Carbery said.
Washington would also like to see Alex Ovechkin and Dylan Strome rediscover their spark up front and also want more consistent chemistry down the lineup, with Pierre-Luc Dubois' line with Aliaksei Protas and Tom Wilson being the strongest unit right now.
The Capitals face the Kraken at 10 p.m. ET, where they will go for their sixth straight win and see some familiar faces to boot.
