Capitals Announce Dates For Training Camp; Cristall, Parascak Headline Roster For Rookie Camp In Annapolis

ARLINGTON, V.A. — The Washington Capitals season is almost officially here, as the team announced the dates for its upcoming rookie and training camps on Tuesday.

Training camp officially opens on Thursday, Sept. 19 with the team's first on-ice session and media day. Veteran players will undergo physicals off-ice testing the day before. The full training camp roster will be released closer to camp.

The Capitals open the preseason at home on Sunday, Sept. 22 against the Philadelphia Flyers. From there, the team will evaluate its players during camp and preseason games in order to cut the roster down to 23 men ahead of the regular season, which begins on Saturday, Oct. 12 at home against the New Jersey Devils.

Washington is currently holding informal skates at MedStar Capitals Iceplex, as a mix of current and former roster players and junior players are taking the ice for player-led workouts to prepare for camp. Pierre-Luc Dubois, John Carlson, Alex Alexeyev, Matt Roy, Logan Thompson, Jakob Chychrun, Aliaksei Protas, Jakub Vrana and more have been skating for the last handful of weeks.

The Capitals will hold its annual rookie camp from Sept. 13-16 in Annapolis at McMullen Hockey Arena at the U.S. Naval Academy. All four days of the team's rookie camp will take place in Maryland.

Andrew Cristall, Terik Parascak and Zac Funk are among the prospects who are set to take part in the camp, along with Alexander Suzdalev and Ilya Protas. The full roster will be released at a later date.
