Fabio Capello believes that AC Milan are a level below the likes of Atalanta, Napoli and Inter when it comes to the Scudetto fight this season.

Despite winning 3-0 against Empoli on Saturday evening at San Siro, Milan remain in seventh place and looking upwards towards the teams that are leading the pack.

Napoli are on 32 points after 14 games and lead the league, while Atalanta are just one point behind them. Inter are four off top with a game in hand, and then Fiorentina and Lazio are level with them.

While the Rossoneri have a game in hand over Juventus, Lazio, Atalanta and Napoli – to be played against a resurgent Bologna – they are still 10 points off the summit so there is big work to do.

Capello had a column published in La Gazzetta dello Sport this morning after Atalanta’s big 2-0 win against Roma, and he spoke about where the title race currently stands.

“After the victory in Rome, on Friday there is already Milan for Atalanta: another test. Gasperini’s team will fight until the end with Napoli and Inter for the title,” he began (via MilanPress).

“I like Conte’s Azzurri more and more: they are confident, organised and play as a team, but they also leave the freedom to individuals to invent and exploit their own creativity. While Inter, in terms of quality and depth of the squad, remain the best equipped.

“Between Conte and Inzaghi, there is Gasp. And I expect a challenge until May. Juventus and Milan have shown that they have something less than this trio, not only in the table.

“The Bianconeri in Lecce lasted a half: in the second half they conceded more chances than they have suffered overall in the last matches. Milan need consistency and the starting point to find it is the midfield pairing of Fofana-Reijnders, a guarantee of balance.”
