Caoimhin Kelleher gets clarity over Liverpool future as goalkeeper AGREES one-year deal

Caoimhin Kelleher may end up staying at Liverpool after all following latest developments surrounding Celtic and their search for a Joe Hart replacement.

With the former England international hanging up his boots at the end of last season, Brendan Rodgers' side have been in the market for a new No.1, with a number of talented goalkeepers being mentioned as potential candidates for a move to Scotland this summer.

One of which has been Kelleher who admitted that he came close to leaving Anfield last summer and has recently revealed his desire to become a first-choice goalkeeper in his own right having played second fiddle to Alisson Becker for so long.

Now, interest in the 25-year-old has been quite high but a switch to Nottingham Forest appears to be off the table with the Premier League side confirming the signing of Carlos Miguel from Brazilian outfit Corinthians.

And it seems Kelleher will not be joining Celtic either.

This is because Record Sport understands that the Kasper Schmeichel has agreed a one-year deal to join the reigning Premiership champions and reunite with Brendan Rodgers whom previously was the Denmark international's manager at Leicester City.

Kelleher would be a "great signing" for Celtic

Celtic not bringing in Kelleher is sure to disappoint former striker Alan McInally who is of the opinion the Republic of Ireland international would be an unbelievable signing for Rodgers' side.

"I think that would be unbelievable (if they signed Kelleher), I just don’t know if he would come," he told Gambling.com.

"Would he leave Liverpool? I'm not sure. As far as I’m aware he’s absolutely loved at Liverpool.

"Klopp absolutely adored him. You saw he played in all the cup competitions, and I think he was a good deputy whenever he was needed.

"That would be a great signing for Celtic, it would be fabulous it really would.

"Whether or not you could prise him away from the arms of Liverpool I’m not really sure. I don't know how much he would cost, but I think he might cost a few quid."

So as things stand, it looks like new Liverpool head coach Arne Slot will get his wish of having Kelleher part of his squad for the 2024/25 campaign.
