Canucks WHL Prospects Wrap Up 2024 Training Camp

Two Vancouver Canucks prospects are wrapping up their 2024 WHL training camps this weekend. Both Sawyer Mynio and Parker Alcos were full participants at training camp and could play in a preseason game for their WHL squads before heading up to Penticton in mid-September for the Young Stars tournament. Both Alcos and Mynio are expected to play critical roles in junior this season and may even receive call-ups to Abbotsford at the end of the campaign, depending on how far their WHL teams go in the postseason.

Starting with Mynio, he is entering his fourth season with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Drafted 89th overall in 2023, Mynio set a new career high with 53 points in 63 games last season while averaging 27 minutes a night. A leader on the Thunderbirds roster, a solid start to the year for Mynio could land him a spot on Team Canada's World Junior team in December.

As for Alcos, he is starting his second full season with the Edmonton Oil Kings. In 67 games last season, the 2024 sixth-round pick had 15 points while averaging just over 20 minutes per game. A shutdown defender who isn't afraid to play a physical game, Alcos will be leaned on heavily again this year as the Oil Kings look to make the playoffs after missing out the last two seasons.
