Canucks Social Sundays: Shots, Spotify Wrapped, And Swifties

In this recap, I’ll be taking a look at some of the social media happenings of the Vancouver Canucks over the past week. Canucks fans got lots of content from the Instagram and TikTok channels, ranging from questions about the team’s music tastes, to their best basketball shots. Here’s what happened on @canucks this week.

Canucks Spotify Wrapped

17 brave Canucks shared their top songs from their Spotify Wrapped this year. Brock Boeser kicked off the team’s playlist of top songs with “Like a Brother” by the band hey, nothing. Conor Garland’s top song of the year was “Time of the Season” by The Zombies, while Dakota Joshua’s was Key Glock’s “Monster.” Goaltenders Kevin Lankinen and Thatcher Demko had Fred Again’s “adore you” and Sam Hughes’ “Moon” respectively. If Jake DeBrusk keeps up the scoring tear that he’s on, there’s a chance he could do what his top song says and become an “All-Star.”

A Team of Swifties

The Canucks couldn’t have possibly gone through a week of “Swiftcouver” fun without being asked which members of the team are the biggest fans of the pop star. Nils Höglander pulled in a decent crop of votes for the team’s biggest Swiftie, as he was nominated by Erik Brännström, Aatu Räty, and Elias Pettersson. He later claimed that “Love Story” was his favourite song by her. Höglander’s history with being a fan of Swift dates back to a TikTok posted last year, in which he said he’d rather meet her than her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

Warmup Routines

The Canucks’ TikTok account treated fans to a close-up look at some of the players’ warmup routines this week. Clips were shown of Garland being the last player out of the tunnel, Tyler Myers juggling the puck on his stick, and Vincent Desharnais clobbering teammates excitedly in an attempt to get everyone fired up. Höglander and Noah Juulsen’s hitting routine was also captured, as well as DeBrusk and Räty’s habit of tossing pucks to fans. The video also showed Quinn Hughes as the last player to leave the ice during warmups — something that is not surprising at all given the captain’s work ethic.

Shots (Not on the Ice)

It appears that the Canucks have the potential to excel in the NBA as well, as a TikTok posted on Saturday demonstrated some of the team’s basketball shooting skills. During their stop in Detroit to face the Red Wings, the team got to fiddle around in the Pistons’ home arena. Myers, Pettersson, and Kiefer Sherwood all made shots taken from half court.
