Canucks Put Forth Another Disappointing Effort In 6-2 Loss To The Oilers
It was another disappointing performance from the Vancouver Canucks as they fell 6-2 to the Edmonton Oilers. Brock Boeser and Filip Hronek provided the goals, while Thatcher Demko stopped 28 of 34 in the loss. With the defeat, Vancouver drops the season series against Edmonton, finishing the three-game set being outscored 16-8. Also, the Canucks are now 1-5-0 in their last six games and have not beaten a team on the road since January 11, 2025.

It's been the story of the season, but once again, Vancouver came out with little energy and let the opposition dictate the game. The Canucks were down 3-0 at the end of the first, and while they scored twice in the second, they only managed four shots on goal in the middle frame. This lack of effort has become a frustrating trend not just for fans but also for coach Rick Tocchet, whose calling out of the team after Tuesday's loss to the Buffalo Sabres seems to have little impact on Thursday's game.

Speaking of Tocchet, he was unsurprisingly not happy with his team's performance. Post-game, Tocchet said, "We give them penalties right off the start. We gave them a couple free goals, and then, you try and chase the game. You can't do that against this team or any team. We've been doing that lately." Tocchet also said that he "felt some guys didn't have energy" and mentioned that multiple players looked exhausted during the game.
Another major issue in this game for Vancouver was discipline. The Canucks gave up two power play goals on four chances, with Vincent Desharnais responsible for three penalties in the game.
They also finished the night with zero power plays of their own, which is the second time this season they have not had an opportunity on the man advantage. While it is never a good idea to rely heavily on the power play, Vancouver needs to do a better job of drawing penalties, especially early in games.
In the end, this game was yet another in a long line of unacceptable efforts by this group this year. The team looks completely demoralized and needs a change ASAP. Scheduled for an off-day on Friday, this team needs to find a way to reset and put forward a better performance on Saturday when they take on the Washington Capitals.
