Canucks Prospect Records Franchise First In The AHL

Vancouver Canucks prospect Nikita Tolopilo was unbeatable this weekend against the Manitoba Moose. The 24-year-old stopped all 42 shots he faced during Saturday and Sunday's games and became the first goaltender in Abbotsford Canucks history to record back-to-back shutouts. Tolopilo's shutout streak is now over 130 minutes, with his last goal allowed coming 3:42 into the third period of the November 30th game against the San Jose Barracuda.

After making 15 saves on Saturday, Tolopilo was a little busier on Sunday, stopping all 27 shots he faced. He also helped Abbotsford pick up wins number 13 and 14 on the season while extending their win streak to four games. The AHL canucks are one of the hottest teams in the league, having gone 8-2-0 in their last ten games.

An undrafted prospect, Tolopilo has been yet another hidden gem for the Canucks organization. In 48 AHL games, he has a record of 27-19-1, along with a save percentage of .903. As for this season, Tolopilo has seven wins in 13 games, while his three shutouts are tied for the team lead.

After two successful seasons in the  HockeyAllsvenskan, Tolopilo signed with Vancouver on March 31, 2023. Listed at 6'6", 229lbs, his first win came in his AHL debut last season when he stopped 41 of 44 shots in a 4-3 victory over the Laval Rocket. As for his first AHL shutout, that came earlier this season in a 2-0 win over the Henderson Silver Knights. While he has yet to play in an NHL game, Tolopilo has already served as Vancouver's backup, dressing for Game 4 of the Canucks first-round series against the Nashville Predators last season.
