Canucks Prospect Named Co-Captain Of The Seattle Thunderbirds
Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio has been named a co-captain of the Seattle Thunderbirds for the 2024-25 season. The left-shot defenceman will split the captain duties this season with center Braeden Cootes, who is eligible for the 2025 NHL Entry Draft. Drafted 89th overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, so far this season, Mynio sits third in scoring on the Thunderbirds with 17 points in 15 games and is just seven games away from hitting the 200 regular-season games played mark for his career.

In a team statement, Seattle Head Coach Matt O’Dette wrote, "We are very excited to announce our leadership group. It is a tremendous honor to wear a letter on a Thunderbirds jersey. These players are well deserving, and we are confident that they are the right players to lead our team not only on the ice, but also in the community."

In 193 career regular-season WHL games, Mynio has recorded 29 goals and 112 points. His career 112 points sit eighth among current WHL defencemen, while his 29 goals sit fifth. A U.S. Division Second Team All-Star last season, Mynio is one of nine current WHL defencemen to have played in the Memorial Cup.
Mynio is also a heavy favourite to make Team Canada's World Juniors team. He was a standout during the Summer Showcase and has been selected by many experts, including THN's Tony Ferrari. With only a few weeks until Team Canada announced its Training Camp roster, Mynio's impending return to the lineup should help secure his spot on Team Canada's 2025 World Juniors team.
