Vancouver Canucks prospect Sawyer Mynio has been named to Team Canada's 2025 World Juniors team. The Seattle Thunderbirds defenceman will represent his country for the first time at the upcoming tournament, which will take place in Ottawa, Ontario. Despite missing significant time with injury this season, Mynio has had a strong start to 2024-25 with 19 points in 18 games. He has points in three of his last four games and is one of 11 WHL defensemen above a point per game this year. Mynio was also named co-captain of the Thunderbirds for the 2024-25 season, splitting the duties with 2025 NHL Draft prospect Braeden Cootes.

The Canucks selected Mynio 89th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. In 196 WHL games, he has scored 30 goals while recording 144 points. Mynio was also part of Seattle's 2022 Memorial Cup team that made it all the way to the final before falling to the Québec Remparts.

Team Canada kicks off their 2025 World Juniors on December 26 against Team Finland. Canada will be looking for a stronger performance than the one in 2024 when they fell in the quarterfinals. The 2025 tournament will wrap up on January 5, 2025, with both the Bronze and Gold Medal games taking place at the Canadian Tire Centre.
