Canucks Prospect Update: January 2025

The 2025 World Juniors have come and gone, which means it’s time for another Vancouver Canucks prospects update.

Kirill Kudryavstev

Defenceman

Abbotsford Canucks, AHL

Round 7, #208 overall in 2022

Kirill Kudryavstev ended a three-year tenure with the OHL’s Soo Greyhounds this year by making the leap to the Abbotsford Canucks. In the past, Kudryavstev has been recognized for his talent in helping create offence from the blueline, as he potted 18 goals and 118 assists in 202 games with the Greyhounds. Despite only being 20 — and turning 21 this February — the defenceman has impressed so far as a part of Abbotsford’s defensive core. He is one of three rookie defenders on the team, the other two being Elias Pettersson (D) and Christian Felton, and is first on the team in scoring by a defenceman with 16 points in 30 games played.

Ty Mueller

Forward

Abbotsford Canucks, AHL

Round 4, #105 overall in 2023

Another rookie on Abbotsford, Ty Mueller has gotten his AHL career off to a rocket-start. The 21-year-old spent the last three seasons with the University of Nebraska-Omaha of the NCAA and was even nominated for the Hobey Baker. In 33 games with Abbotsford, Mueller has put up seven goals and 12 assists.

Riley Patterson

Forward

Barrie Colts, OHL

Round 4, #125 overall in 2024

A 2024 NHL Draft pick, Riley Patterson is in his second season with the Barrie Colts, having joined the team in the 2023–24 season. In his first OHL season he scored 29 goals and 33 assists in 68 games played, an effort that he seems to be repeating. Currently, he has posted 17 goals and 16 assists in 39 games. With the Colts’ acquisition of his fellow Canucks prospect Anthony Romani, Patterson has slid down to Barrie’s second line, though it’s unlikely that this move will impact his offensive contributions in the long run.

Elias Pettersson (D)

Defence

Abbotsford Canucks, AHL

Round 3, #80 overall in 2022

Elias Pettersson (D) is in his first full season with Abbotsford, as he previously spent four seasons with different iterations of Örebro HK of the SHL. He played eight games with the Baby Canucks in 2023–24, scoring two assists and slotting in for one playoff game. Since joining them full time, he has played in 35 games and posted a goal and 12 assists.

Anthony Romani

Forward

Barrie Colts, OHL

Round 6, #162 overall in 2024

Prior to 2025, Romani had spent his entire OHL career with the North Bay Battalion. In four seasons, he collected 173 points in 194 games, with his most impressive season coming in his draft year, when he scored 58 goals and 53 assists in 68 games. Romani was traded to the Colts on January 5, joining Patterson in Barrie for their playoff push. On Thursday night, he played his first game as a member of the Colts, as well as his first against his old team. He scored his first goal with his new team into an empty net on Saturday night's match against the Windsor Spitfires.

Ty Young

Goaltender

Kalamazoo Wings, ECHL

Round 5, #144 overall in 2022

Ty Young has moved around quite a bit this season. He has spent time with both Abbotsford and the Kalamazoo Wings this season, playing five and 10 games respectively. His most recent start was for Kalamazoo on January 11, in which he made 30 saves on 32 shots against. In his five games with Abbotsford, Young posted a 2.41 GAA and a .915 SV%. On December 7th, his last start for Abbotsford against the Colorado Eagles, he made 24 saves on 25 shots.
