Have The Canucks Playoff Odds Changed After Their First Two Games Of The 2024-25 Season?

The first two games of the Vancouver Canucks 2024-25 season were less than ideal. They held leads heading into the third but were only able to come out with one point from each game. While some in the city have started to panic, that is not the case with MoneyPuck, as the Canucks playoff odds have actually increased since October 5.

As of the morning of October 12, Vancouver had an 85% chance of making the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. That is a slight increase from the 80.4% chance they were given on the fifth. The Canucks were also given a slight bump to win the division, seeing their odds rise from 21.3% to 27.5%.

The most surprising increase was that Vancouver now has a 7.4% chance of winning the Stanley Cup, compared to their 5.6% chance earlier this month. While they still have the seventh-highest odds, they are no longer tied with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who saw a dramatic decrease from 5.6% to 4.8%. Of note, the Canucks are still ahead of the Toronto Maple Leafs, whose Stanley Cup odds sit at 6.3%.

While the two losses were not ideal, these odds are a good reminder that it is a long season. A good example is the Edmonton Oilers, who were able to put a slow start behind them and almost challenged Vancouver for the division last season. Essentially, there is no need to hit the panic button just yet, as there are still 80 games to go in the 2024-25 regular season.
