Canucks Get Massive Boost As Hughes Returns Against The Canadiens

After a four-game absence, Quinn Hughes will return to the Vancouver Canucks lineup. Vancouver's captain has missed the past four games with an injury, with the Canucks going 1-2-1 in his absence. Hughes will also be playing his 400th game when he hits the ice against the Montréal Canadiens, becoming the 15th defenceman in franchise history to achieve the feat.

To say Vancouver missed Hughes is an understatement. Over the past four games, the Canucks have scored a total of eight goals while allowing 14. Vancouver is also averaging 23.8 shots per game, which is 1.9 shots fewer than their season average.

Based on line rushes, Hughes will be partnered with Tyler Myers for this game. Hughes has been playing next to Myers ever since Filip Hronek went down with injury at the end of November. While Hronek has been skating, there is still no timeline for his return to the lineup.

As for other injury notes for the Canucks matchup with the Canadiens, both Elias Pettersson and Dakota Joshua will not play. Pettersson was injured on December 23 against the San Jose Sharks, while Joshua picked up an injury on Friday when Vancouver faced the Nashville Predators. Joshua's injury means Jonathan Lekkerimäki will slide into the top six and play on a line with J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser.
