Canucks Insider Reveals Potential Pettersson-to-Columbus Trade Details

Vancouver Canucks reporter Rick Dhaliwal joined the Halford and Brough show to discuss the Elias Pettersson situation.

Dhaliwal shared his thoughts on why the tension between Pettersson and J.T. Miller has worsened this season. He also highlighted why he believes the Columbus Blue Jackets could be a sleeper team to acquire Pettersson from Vancouver.

"A lot of people feel the one team that could satisfy Vancouver for Pettersson is Columbus—tons of cap space, good young centers, and draft picks to pull off a Pettersson trade," Dhaliwal said.

He further explained what Columbus has to offer:
"Columbus has two first-round picks this year, multiple mid-round picks, and cap space. Also, they play in the East."

Dhaliwal emphasized that if Vancouver trades Pettersson, it would likely be to an Eastern Conference team to avoid facing him frequently during the season.

However, he didn’t name specific players on the Blue Jackets' roster that might interest the Canucks. Based on his comments, he pointed to young centers, draft picks, and the cap flexibility to take on Pettersson's full contract.

It’s safe to assume that Kent Johnson and Adam Fantilli wouldn’t be part of any trade package.

This could mean Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell would consider including Cole Sillinger as a young center heading to Vancouver. A package might also involve a defenseman like Ivan Provorov or Dante Fabbro to help stabilize the Canucks' blue line.

If the Blue Jackets aren’t willing to part with an NHL defenseman, they could offer one of their top prospects, such as Denton Mateychuk.

Of course, at least one of Columbus's first-round picks would likely be included, along with some of the mid-round picks Dhaliwal mentioned.

Ultimately, no one knows the exact asking price for Pettersson yet. Speculation about his value is ongoing. That said, Waddell and the Blue Jackets will undoubtedly do their due diligence to explore the possibility of adding Pettersson for a playoff push.
