Canucks Defenceman Joins Star-Studded Team OREO Roster
There’s a new all-star team on the rise, except these player’s aren’t competing for the NHL — they’re competing for Team OREO. Created in conjunction with NHLPA Goals & Dreams, the team seeks to make hockey “accessible, affordable, and above all, fun for kids in communities across Canada.” Canucks fans will be pleased to see a familiar face listed on the team’s website.
Currently, there are six NHL and PWHL players on Team OREO’s roster. These players include William Nylander of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Sarah Nurse of the Toronto Sceptres, Nick Suzuki of the Montréal Canadiens, Marie-Philip Poulin of the Montréal Victoire, Zach Hyman of the Edmonton Oilers, and Quinn Hughes of the Vancouver Canucks.
In Hughes’ profile, the Canucks defenceman can be seen sporting a big grin as he points towards the reader. Alongside his photos are a set of questions and his answers. When asked about the start of his love for hockey, he cited “the friendly competition” between himself and his brothers, Jack and Luke.
“I try to keep it playful throughout the season by remembering to have fun with my teammates at practice,” Hughes says on the Team OREO website. “It’s obviously important to be serious at times, but it’s also important to remember why we all love the game.”

Some of the other profiles, such as Nylander’s and Nurse’s, include a two-minute-long video of each player answering the same questions asked to Hughes. As well, there are clips of the athletes skating around a rink while wearing a baby blue “Team OREO” jersey with their name and number on the back.
Hughes was also asked for any advice he could give to kids in terms of keeping the game of hockey playful, to which he said to “worry less about performance and just make sure you are enjoying playing the game every time you are on the ice.”
As part of their “Stay Playful for All” campaign, Team OREO will give regional grants to Canadian hockey teams and organizations in need that explain how they “keep it playful.” A grand total of $200,000 will be given out across Ontario, the West Coast, and the Atlantic. Applications are due on March 15, 2025, with a preliminary deadline being February 7.
