If you picked the Columbus Blue Jackets to legitimately be in a playoff position in the middle of January, go directly to the head of the class and collect your gold star. Nobody saw this coming.

But here were are. More than halfway through the season, the Blue Jackets are not only hanging with the big boys, but they're playing an entertaining brand of high-octane hockey, just the way Johnny Gaudreau would have liked it.

Instead of wallowing in self-pity, which would have been entirely understandable, the Blue Jackets have followed the Gaudreau family's encouragement to just go out and play hockey. They've done that very well this season and, in doing so, have made themselves the biggest story in the NHL.
