Candace Parker says people root against Team USA because they are too dominant

Candace Parker believes she knows why people love to hate the USA women’s basketball team: They are too good. Parker told Complex that the women’s team is so dominant that other fans feel compelled to root against them.

Just how strong is Team USA? Parker thinks they could create three separate teams and all of them would win a medal.

Parker may have a point. The women’s team has been unbelievably dominant in the past few Olympics. The team has won the gold at six straight Olympics. You have to go back to 1992 to find the last time they didn’t take home the gold medal. Team USA won the bronze in ‘92.

That much dominance would make Team USA an easy target for opposing fans. Unless you grew up a New England Patriots fan, are you really rooting for the Patriots to continue winning Super Bowls every season? No. You want someone else to knock them down a peg.

Now that Parker has put that quote out there, she better hope the women’s team delivers in 2020. Anything less than a gold medal is a major disappointment. Based on Parker’s comments, even a win by a small margin would be an embarrassment.
