Canadiens' Demidov Loses Out On Rookie Of The Month Honors To Teammate

As the calendar flips to November, the October portion of the KHL season is in the books. During 12 games in the month, Montreal Canadiens prospect Ivan Demidov scored two goals and had 11 points to finish the stretch with a .96 points per game average.

The 18-year-old also had a seven-game point streak that began on Oct. 15 and lasted the remainder of the month, thanks to two points on Oct. 30.

After winning September Rookie of the Month honors, with eight points in ten games, Demidov seemed to be a lock to repeat as the KHL's top Rookie. However, October's honors belonged to his SKA St. Petersburg teammate and puck-stopper Yegor Zavragin, who was 8-1 in nine appearances.

Zavragin is a prospect of the Philadelphia Flyers, chosen as the 87th overall pick in the 2023 Draft. Like Demidov, the 19-year-old goalie made his KHL debut in 2024-25.

Although Demidov didn't win his second consecutive Rookie of the Month honor, he has 19 points and dropped to 16th in league scoring after having his seven-game point streak snapped on Saturday in a 4-2 loss to Salavat Yulaev Ufa.

Despite his place in the KHL scoring race, Demidov ranks second in the league with a plus-16 rating, just one point behind his teammate Alexander Nikishin, who is plus-17.

SKA St. Petersburg returns to action on Monday, Nov. 4, against Kunlun Red Star.
