Canadiens Could Look at Trethewey

I feel like the Montreal Canadiens need to get more defensemen in their system. The upcoming draft has a fair amount but very few stars. Many of them are good and have specific talents; one is Charlie Tretheway.

At 6’2”, 196 pounds, he has the measurables GMs love and he has a good reach. I mention that because defensemen don’t have to crush everybody, but his reach is very good and he’s starting to really emphasize that as the season rolls on with the NTDP. He does use his body as well and he will get stronger over time. According to InStat, he averages .74 hits per game on average.

His skating is excellent and his passing is crisp. He can help bring the puck up the ice safely and effectively to start the offense. This blueliner will get some points, and he can play the power play, but he will be a 5-on-5 producer, nothing special as far as points go but he can play important minutes and become a second-pairing defenseman if it all hits right.

I look at him as a future NHLer, I only wonder where he may fall in the draft. Since the Canadiens have two second-round picks, I think they should use one of them on him if he’s still here and he might be. I wouldn’t mind using that first one but it depends on how the draft is going. Sometimes you can get that intel that a player is going to drop slightly and you have to manage that in real time.

Keep your eye on this player.
