Should the Canadiens Acquire Trevor Zegras?
I have no sources but we’ve all heard that Trevor Zegras is probably on the trading block because the Anaheim Ducks don’t seem to want to give him a long-term contract. He currently has one more year left on his deal at 5.75 million and a year of RFA status in 2026 according to Puckpedia.

With time left on the deal and the Canadiens having a need at center. Why not? I can tell you there’s still a lot of upside with Zegras who’s gotten off track but the pivot is talented. He still needs to round out his game but the offensive push he would give the team could be big. There’s one player on the team who he has played a lot with and that’s Cole Caufield.
The two are good friends and had a lot of success with the NTDP. They know how each other clicks. They’ve won gold together more than once so who knows that the next level of that could bring? There’s also a fun factor here as well.
In 2023, Caufield was the caddie for Zegras at the Rocket Mortgage pro-am in Detroit. He carried his bag for all 18 holes. They’ve been on TikTok together. It could be a great fit but the price might be too high.
I’m not sure what Anaheim would ask for but I know the Canadiens could swing it. They have prospects and draft capital and this would be an upgrade for them now and possibly in the future if they were to extend him. But for now, it would be an extended look at a very talented player who needs a change of scenery.
