Canada Leads Rivalry Series 2-1 After Win In Idaho
Canada will take a 2-1 Rivalry Series lead back to home ice in February after winning game three of the 2024-25 Series 4-1 in Idaho.
Jocelyne Larocque cleaned up a loose puck after multiple Canadian chances to put Canada up 1-0 in the first period of game three. Before the midway point of the opening period, Sarah Nurse doubled Canada's lead on the powerplay.
Kristin O'Neill found the back of the net on the powerplay for Canada again in the second period to give her nation a 3-0 lead. Emily Clark redirected a pass from Laura Stacey home while driving to the net to score Canada's fourth of the game.
The Canadian story for this game however, was the play of netminder Emerance Maschmeyer. Maschmeyer turned aside 36 shots in the win, playing a calm and composed game.
“I was really excited to play; it’s been about six months since I’ve played a hockey game, which is a really long time for me," Maschmeyer said. "Playing the last game of [this leg of] the series when it’s tied 1-1, I was excited to have the pressure on me. My mindset going in was to be calm, bring the energy and have that presence, and I think I did a good job of that tonight. There’s nothing better than facing a lot of shots and I saw a variety from them from the U.S. They’re a good, skilled team and it feels good to help my team get the win.”
USA would eventually get one back on a blast by Laila Edwards on the power play, but three goals down at 4-1 would be as close as the American roster would come.
Game 4 and Game 5 of the 2024-25 Rivalry Series will take place on February 6 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and February 8 in Summerside, Prince Edward Island.
