Canada Golden: Shutout USA In U-18 Final
Canada got redemption. Last year they suffered a semi-final upset at the hands of Czechia that resulted in bronze. This year Canada beat Czechia in the semis, and then put together a strong 60 minutes to beat USA 3-0 for gold.
After a scoreless opening period where USA's Morgan Stickney and Canada's Marilou Grenier shut the door with USA outshooting Canada 7-6, the second saw a distinct shift.
Canada took it to the American team outshooting USA 14-5 in the frame including a one-timer from Caileigh Tiller on the power play that put Canada up 1-0. With the player advantage, Danica Maynard found Tiller in the right circle where she one-timed a shot that beat a sliding Stickney through the five-hole.
Heading to the third period up by a goal, Dorothy Copetti found a loose puck and banked it off a skate and through Stickney for the two goal lead.
Late in period Stryker Zablocki added an empty netter to secure Canada’s 3-0 win.
Grenier stopped all 14 shots she faced for the shutout.
