Canada coach confirms Buchanan wants Inter exit on loan

Canada coach Jesse Marsch confirms Inter’s Tajon Buchanan wants to leave the Nerazzurri on loan this month: ‘We spoke about four days ago…’

The Canada international has been struggling for playing time after returning from a broken tibia sustained while on international duty in July.

Reports in Italy claim Torino are interested in signing the Canada star on loan this month and Marsch confirmed that the 25-year-old is planning to leave San Siro on a temporary deal this month.

“We spoke about four days ago. He wants to go out on loan, and I think that the club is going to work with him,” Marsch told Footy Prime podcast.

“There’s this ongoing discussion. He knows he needs to play. We were all incredibly impressed with how he came through the injury.

“When we saw him at Suriname, we were like, ‘What?’ I think in the long term, it might be good for him to actually go through a lot of training and not so much playing, but now he needs to play,” continued the Canada boss.

“He mentioned that maybe it’s something where he stays in Italy. Somebody said something to me about Ajax, but I don’t know if that would be in the mix. He knows he needs to play and get back in the rhythm. We need the best version of Tajon, who can start pushing his overall development and make sure that by next summer, he’s one of our most important guys.”

Buchanan has made six appearances across all competitions this season, collecting just 135 minutes of football.

He joined Inter from Club Brugge in the 2024 January transfer window for €7m, becoming the first Canadian footballer to play in Serie A.

He has one goal in 16 appearances with the Nerazzurri, with whom he won the Scudetto last season.

Reports in Italy claim Torino are among the Serie A clubs interested in securing his services this month.
