Canada's 25th medal, 8th gold makes Paris its most successful non-boycotted Summer Games ever
Katie Vincent's victory in the women's canoe sprint 200-metre final on Saturday wasn't just her second medal at the Paris Olympics — it helped break two Canadian records.
It gave the country its 25th medal and eighth win, breaking the national records for a non-boycotted Summer Games.
The previous mark was set three years ago in Tokyo, and included seven gold.
Saturday's other medal hopefuls:
Marco Arop, athletics (men's 800 metres, 1:15 p.m. ET) – The reigning world champion from Edmonton has a strong chance to win Canada's first-ever Olympic gold in the event, and first medal in 60 years.
Canada, athletics (women's 4x400m relay final, 3:14 p.m.) – The team has placed fourth in each of the past two Olympics and World Athletics Championships.
Phil Kim, breaking (round-robin matchup, 10:11 a.m.) – Better known by his stage name, Phil Wizard, the 27-year-old is one of the top men's gold-medal contenders. Kim won the men's world title in 2022 and took silver in 2023, when he also won gold at the Pan Am Games.
