Canada's Tyson Barrie to miss rest of hockey worlds following freak injury

Canadian defenceman Tyson Barrie will miss the remainder of the world championship with a lower-body injury, Hockey Canada has announced.

According to a TSN report, the injury, a leg laceration, occurred while Barrie was wrestling a teammate in a hotel room.

Barrie, a Colorado Avalanche stalwart, was tied with NHL teammate Nathan MacKinnon and Carolina Hurricanes forward Jeff Skinner for the Team Canada scoring lead with seven points apiece.

Barrie had two goals and five assists.

Though it certainly counts as a major loss for Canada, it will be somewhat offset by the arrival of St. Louis Blues defenceman Colton Parayko, who recorded 35 points in the regular season and added five more in the playoffs.

Canada's next game takes places Thursday at 2:15 p.m. ET against co-host France.
