Cambridge sign Osong and Ballard on loan
Cambridge United have signed Nottingham Forest's Esapa Osong and fellow forward Dom Ballard from Southampton on loan for the rest of the season.
Osong, 20, has made one senior appearance for his parent club, coming on as a late substitute in a Carabao Cup tie at Manchester United almost two years ago.
He spent the first half of this season on loan at Rotherham United, scoring once in 10 games, but only made one league start and was recalled by Forest earlier this month.
Ballard, 19, also spent the first portion of the season out on loan in League One with Blackpool, where he scored once in 22 appearances.
U's boss Garry Monk said Ballard, who twice featured off the bench in the Premier League for Saints in May 2023, has been one of the club's "primary targets".
Osong, Monk said, arrives as a "highly regarded" recruit who "is hungry to do well".
Cambridge are away to Rotherham on Tuesday, having achieved their first win in eight matches when they beat Mansfield Town 3-2 at the weekend.
They are, though, 22nd in the League One table, six points from safety, with 20 games left to play.
