Calhanoglu tells investigators why he met arrested ultras despite Inter advice
According to La Stampa, Hakan Calhanoglu admitted he had met Inter ultras who were later arrested even if the club warned him against doing so.
Inter star Calhanoglu met Milan and anti-mafia prosecutors on Thursday to answer questions about his relationship with ultras members arrested last month.
Calhanoglu and nobody at Inter are under investigation. The same goes for Milan.
Police arrested 19 people last month, including Inter and Milan ultra members.
Calhanoglu tells investigators why he met arrested ultras despite Inter advice
They are accused of leading illicit businesses inside and outside San Siro on behalf of Mafia families from the Calabria region.
According to La Stampa, Calhanoglu confirmed to investigators that he had met an ultras member arrested in September, Marco Ferdico, as well as Antonio Bellocco, who was killed on September 4 by a fellow Nerazzurri ultras.
According to La Stampa, the most relevant thing Calhanoglu told the investigators was: “I met the ultras, but the club told me not to do so.”
Calhanoglu reportedly said he had met Ferdico and Bellocco, two Curva Nord leaders, “out of gratitude” as ultras had dedicated him a banner after the earthquake in Turkey in 2023.
However, Calhanoglu denied that he and the ultras’ families hung out together, as Ferdico suggested in a wiretap heard by investigators.
Milan captain Davide Calabria and Inter coach Simone Inzaghi were also heard as informed witnesses in previous days.
