News headlines

Here's what the CBC Calgary newsroom is working on this morning:

The Calgary Flames are down 2–0 in their second-round series against the Anaheim Ducks. The Flames were shut down last night in Anaheim, dropping a 3–0 decision to the Ducks in Game 2 of their series. Game 3 takes place back in Calgary on Tuesday night.

The federal government says it will try to put a hold on an Alberta judge's decision to grant bail to Omar Khadr. He is the Canadian who was a Guantanamo Bay prisoner and is now being held at the Bowden Institution north of Calgary. A Court of Queen's Bench Justice has decided Khadr should be released on bail. The judge said that Khadr has been a model prisoner who poses little risk to the public. The federal government's lawyers say the judge had no right to make that call because Khadr's transfer to Canada was done under an international prisoner transfer treaty. The government's objection is expected to be heard tomorrow.
