Caleb Williams explains how Bears' turmoil will help his development

Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been through a roller coaster of a journey in his rookie season, and it's not exactly how he would've drawn up his first year in the NFL. Coming into the year, the Bears had plenty of high expectations, surrounding by HBO's "Hard Knocks" in the preseason, and then getting off to a 4-2 start, even with Williams struggling early in his rookie tenure, it would be after the team's bye week that chaos would really ensue.

After the team's first eight games, which included at the time a four-game losing streak with stagnant offense, Williams saw the first of two major coaching changes go down. That started with offensive coordinator Shane Waldron being fired after an abysmal showing against the New England Patriots in Week 10 and Thomas Brown was named his replacement. Following the team's debacle of a showing on Thanksgiving, the bigger hammer would drop in Williams' rookie season as head coach Matt Eberflus was fired and again, Brown was promoted to interim head coach.

Preparing for his first game with Brown as his interim head coach, Williams spoke to the media on Wednesday and was asked about his feelings on all the changes and turmoil he's faced as a rookie. Understandably so, Williams would say he wasn't happy because of it, but understands it could help his future.

“To be able to have all of this in my first year, I wouldn't say I’m happy for it, but having these moments is definitely something that will help me in the future," Williams said.

Not seeing it as a negative that could hinder his growth in the NFL, Williams believes experiencing all the changes he has this season, will only help him grow in his career.

"I wouldn't say that it'll affect my development," Williams said. "I think this is a stepping stone of development. To be able to have all of this in my first year, I wouldn't say that I'm happy for it, but having these moments is definitely something that will help me in the future."

Throughout all the chaos, Williams has carried himself like an experienced veteran and not a young rookie. No team would like to have their prize superstar rookie, especially one they hope to be their long-term franchise quarterback, experience the turmoil that Williams has gone through. In the end, if he learns and grows from it all, it'll just be another sign of overcoming adversity for someone who continues to mature and develop each and every week.
